Default Replacing rods, need to be reconditioned?

I'm looking to replace rod bolts on a 2000 LS1 with some ARP bolts. I was reading something from LPE that states that the rods from this engine do not need to be reconditioned when being replaced. FWIW I'm looking at replacing only 1 stock rod with another stock peice and adding ARP bolts. can anyone shed any light on this?

Thanks,

Bill

stock ls1 rods can not be reconditioned.
Just add the bolts and your good to go.

yup, they are cracked design rods
I learned that the hard way, when my machine shop discovered ALL of my rods were out of round

Hi,
The only way to know if your rods are OK is to measure them. Federal-Mogul makes bearings that allow re-conditioning our cracked rods.

Speed-Pro Oversize O.D. Bearings
This is another Federal-Mogul innovation. It is not possible to recondition the new style “cracked” powder metal connecting rods in the traditional manner. Our oversize O.D. bearings allow machinists to hone these rods to a slightly larger inside diameter, cost effectively reconditioning them for future service. This technique requires fewer steps, and actually saves the machinist time and money when compared to prior reconditioning methods.

Good luck,
