Default Is a 4.185 bore LSX block safe to spray a decent shot on?

I am looking at an engine that a friend of mine has and he is thinking of selling it. It has been sprayed before, but only with a 100 shot. I am wanting go a way bit more on nitrous like a 300 shot but I am worried about the bore being 4.185 since the max bore is 4.200 on the LSX block. Will the walls be too thing to spray that much?

I also know the compression height on the piston is 1.115 and that kinda plays the role on how much you can spray.

So would I be ok or should I pass on the deal

Is that all you want to spray? I think a 300shot could be too big.

The wall isn't to thin. Any info on the piston, ring land? If it has nitrous pistons in he motor and a 4" or less stroke I feel you will be good with a good tune. We spray more than that on a 4.185" bore rhs blocked engine but it has 3.8 stroke.

As long as the top ring land is decently thick in the .0280-.0320 range and you're using a tool steel top ring you should be ok with reading the plugs correctly and doing your tuning at the track or on a loaded dyno.

This is what I was able to find out about the piston. It is a Wiseco with part # K462X185. It has a compression height of 1.050 and it has a -2.8 volume. It takes a 1.2,1.2, 3mm ring pack.

It has a 4.125 stroke with 6.125 rods. Both rods and crank are Eagle.

I would start small and make sure you tune up is on point, not close enough exactly perfect and you know what to change as the weather changes. With the 4.125 stroke you gave up some piston strength. But you can get away with a lot with the correct plugs and perfect tune up. I bet you could check with the mfg of each part in the engine and they would tell you it's not built for a 300 shot but neither is a stock piston. Do you have the heads and the rest of the setup to be able to efficiently run a 300 shot? If you slowly step up your hit and read plugs along the way you will see what the motor likes and at a point you won't pick up much mph after you reach a certain point. If you have some killer heads, cam setup, exhaust it may love 300.

The heads that were on the motor were WCCH ported LS7's and the cam was Something like 239/251 and i really dont remember the lift but i do know it was above. 650.I was told it made a hair short of 740 on the engine dyno.

Id say 200 safe you need to run a min of 112 octane id run 116 if I was you with the right tune, fuel, plugs and dont get agressive you will be fine. Just depends on what your goals are
. Im building a 414 and having the block half filled to make sure the wall holds fyi. Ive seen to many blocks walls give away. Id also do research i hace seen those lsx blocks come in with thiner walls and were out of tolerence. Google it

It would be going in a street car and would be on pump with c16 in a standalone. I've been lurking around here long enough just never registered. I've watched all the info put up by you, ATV, Shiz, Justin Smith, firehawk 441, Martin@Tick(formerly fbodyjunkie), CAMSCAM, and Andy Carter over the years so I would definitely be asking questions and sneaking up on the tune.

No problem pm me if u need anything. Just make sure and tune the car with 93 in tank dont go below. Then 116 in the standalone with colder plugs.

We have 500+ shot on a 4.185 LSX block... it will be fine as long as the tune up is good.
I believe you will hurt a piston before you hurt the block.

Good luck.

Im doing a 4.175" bore x 4" stroke

Plan on 500-600 worth of nitrous. Key would be to make sure the block in a newer version of the LSX that addressed some early core shift problems.
