Default shaft play question?

I have a question about shaft play i bought a used turbo about 1 month ago and now that i am looking to install it i started checking if has shaft play and noticed it does have slight side to side and also up and down shaft play as well but it doesn't hit the the wall of the housing. Is this normal?

Look into the oil drain/outlet, if it's a ball-bearing unit you should be able to see a small shiny hole which is the outer-race part of the bearing, no shiny hole means it's a journal bearing.

Any amount of In and out is not good. If it doesnt feel excessive up and down then its probably not bad.

It shouldn't have in/out play. Journal bearing turbos will have some slight side to side play though.
