Weight Matching Pistons/rods/pins?

When balancing a rotating assembly, Is weight matching the general practice these days? I just want to know if I can assemble the pistons/rods before going to the machine shop to have it all balanced?

Don't assemble them. Just take the pistons, rods, etc to the shop unassembled.
