Default Help with oil pan selection 1968 ls1 camaro

Need help picking an oil pan for my 68 Camaro. I've read a little on the autokraft pan but it seems so people had to tap and drill an extra hole for oil pan. Wondering if anyone ran into that problem.

What options do I have for oil pan? Pics would be nice

An if you happen to have one for sale let me know also.

Right now I have a stock fbody pan from my 02 camaro

The Holley pan is your best bet- tons of center link clearance and ground clearance.

I went with the holley pan. It was Autokraft, Holley, or Mast. I'm not a fan of fabricated pans since they don't provide much rigidity and some of them have sealing issues as the flanges often warp during welding.

Holley pan here too. Great fit with plenty of clearance to the steering arms

I've been looking at the Holley pan also. Looks like it's a complete kit minus the gasket

What you opinion on the GM retro fit pan?

Are you referring to the GM Muscle Car pan/kit ?.. if so. .IMHO, NO, I would not recommend it. It hangs to low.. even lower than a CTS-V pan

If cast...go with a notched F-Body pan, Holley or MAST pan.

If fabricated ... Autokraft, Many of the steel fabricated pans will need remote oil Filter setups.

I had a CTS-V pan on my Chevelle, had to take it out a few months ago. Bottomed out on it and cracked it, just hung to low for a lowered car. Now have a Notched F-Body pan. I have a Holley on my Nova. As noted, would recommend this one for 1st Gen F-Body / 3rd Gen X... (same subframe).

The GM muscle car pan is just an LH8 truck pan. The sump is short enough that it clears the subframe, but its also 8 inches tall and hangs about 2 inches below the subframe. If you bottom out, the first thing that hits is the pan. F body pan is shorter and doesn't have this problem as much but won't clear the subframe without notching it. The holley pan clears the subframe and steering arms, and is only about 5 inches tall so it won't hit the ground. Its cast so it provides a little extra torsional rigidity. It fits like a stock pan. Mast is the other cast option but its 100 more than the holley pan. I haven't seen it to judge quality, but I didn't have any issues putting my faith in holley.

souljaboy9768, I have 68 Firebird and same dilemma with the oil pan, what engine mount are you using?

I saw Moroso oil pan 20140 for $250.00 would it fit 68 Camaro/Firebird without mod?

For $250.. you get the pan.. you will also have to spend some more on a remote Oil Filter setup.

Not many options on getting a pan notched on the Cheap.. I would not let a 1st timer do this.. they usually end up leaking.

Get a good Welder to Tig it... many of the older pan are hard to weld due to the Oil being in it so long and using cheap aluminun cast. They need to be throughtly cleaned.

I had one pan that 3 different good Welds just couldn't do it for one reason or another. One of them does Aluminun Transmission cases all of the time.

S&P offers this services.. but I think it is like $250 ?

Holley and Mast one just about fit anything.. Autokraft is a good one too as a steel fab'd one.

Amazon, of all places, has the pan reasonably cheap:

Holley 302-1 GM LS Retro Fit Engine Oil Pan : Amazon.com : Automotive Holley 302-1 GM LS Retro Fit Engine Oil Pan : Amazon.com : Automotive

I'm still considering the S&P modified pan in to my 68. Does anyone have experience with the Holley pan and road course usage?

Holley pan is a good piece. We put 8000 miles on 1 last summer. A truck pan is going to hang too low.

What mount are you using to get 1.5" set back?
