Default Why are the selling with different aspect ratios?

I don't know a genius when it comes to tire sizes and am wondering if anyone knows why there selling these tires with different front and rear tire height/aspect ratios.

http://www.oewheelsllc.com/Wheels_3/...heels_Tires134

Front 40-17
Rear 35-17

Is this normal? I don't recall ever buying my tires like this?

Shouldn't they both be 35-17? They are not staggered.

no. the 35 and 40 is the side wall height in the form of a percentage of the width. iirc.

so the 275 tire. the sidewall is 40% of that 275. 315 tire, the sidewall is only 35% of that 315. if it was 40% that back tire would be taller that the front.

unless your running 4 same width tires, then it makes no sense. and two of them will be taller. what size tires are you trying to buy?

edit- looks like you are buying 17x11 inch wide rims for the rear, and 9.5 inch wide rims for the front. so my original post stands. same tire set up on my car.

lower aspect ratio would be to make up for a wider tire to keep the overall height the same on both tires

the above posters are correct

a 35 series 275 width tires is not going to be the same height as a 35 series 315 because it is a percentage of width (35%), so to have tires the same approximate height front/back you need to vary the profile series

275/40R17 = 25.7 inches overall diameter
315/35R17 = 25.7 inches overall diameter

The aspect ratio is a percentage to the width. 40 percent of 275 is the same as 35 percent of 315.

The second number is a percentage of the width to make the sidewall radius.

Tire height = (tire width * aspect) * 2 + wheel diameter

40% of 275 is 110
35% of 315 is 110.25, so the radius is only 0.25mm taller. Overall tire height is only 0.02 inches taller.

If you had an aspect ratio of 40 for those rear tires, you'd be at 126, which is about 5/8 inch taller on the radius, or 1.25 inches taller tire overall.

Hope that helps.

What the hell would u all do if u didn't have to answer all my dumb questions. I come from the jeep world where 90% of the time they use inches, front and rear always match, and most people use crager 15" steel wheels... In my neck of the woods anyway, and all we worry about is how much we can deflate our tires without them popping off the rim lol

I'm keeping mine simple by sticking with the same size front and rear when I order my new wheels and tires, 275-40-17

Probably get better wear out of them too, since you can rotate them and all
