Default How much you paid your builder?

How much did you pay for you builder to go thru your motor? Install a heads/cam kit? Check clean pistons? Etc?
If you dont mind me asking.

If the engine is out of the car, I would guess at 2k for that at a decent sized shop...

if engine was in the car, add 1k for that..

and I'm talking labor, not parts

do all my own but spend anywhere from 300-800 at machine shop for cleaning, bore, balance depends on state and locations they have also always seated my valves and installed cam bearings. charge my friends unlimited beer and 200 bucks to put there motors together tho.

do you put the shortblock together or just the heads and intake and cam together...

I would have a machine shop do the shortblock, you need all the clearances checked and everything has to be perfect... piston to wall clearance depending on piston material and that all changes if your NA or FI and power levels...

a good machine shop will charge 500-800 to do a good shortblock that will last for big power and be reliable.

i put it all in i just have the shop acid dip heads, block and bore block and deck both plus balance it but they always seat my new valves, freeze plugs i paid 300 for my talon and 500 from a friends camaro in vegas but for my lq9 here in cali was 750

well 750 in cali with no balance but they did check the old crank and cam for bends since most my build i use new cams and forged crank

you dont have to balance a stock rotating assembly even when changing bearings... it shouldnt change anything, but you mentioned you always do forged cranks with your builds so yeah it would need to be rebalanced

i used eagle w eagle rods and wiesco pistons on my 3 DSM builds they all were with in .001 gram when finished, havn't used one on a lsx build looking at them right now trying to figure out if i want to rebuild my ls1 or trade block for block with my friend with his LQ9 bored 30 over already

stock ls1 cranks can handle 1,000 HP so unless your supercharging your car, which puts more stress on the crank... I would stay stock..

But if you have the cash and want forged then it would work too

reason why im stuck with my camaro build i want a 408ci stoker but everyone up here chargers up the butt for a balance which ill need or take it to vegas.

edwards afb its up by palmdale the high desert bout 2 hrs north of you but i have to go down to l.a. and long beach alot for my GF's family

Oh, my shop is in Escondido. Another 1 1/2 hrs from where I'm at... With gas that would not be worth it
