Default double row timing chain VS C5R

Looking for some opinions on the JP Performance 5615T double row timing chain vs the C5R timing chain. ive been looking into both.

c5r is pretty pricey and the double row is around 100 bones.

just wanting to see if anyone has had good/bad experiences with these timing chains.

im going to be putting this in an 04 6.0 truck block forged with a pt88. going to have alot of money in this thing and dont want to have a timing chain bust and ruin the motor.

thanks for the information in advance

Get ready to clearance the timing cover. At least I had to!

I was originally going to go with a Rollmaster double but it would have likely required doing some work to the timing cover as well as removing the old timing gear. I really did not want to go that route so I went with the C5R instead.

I've heard many use the LS2 chains in HUGE HP setups, the C5R is supposedly stronger yet but if you have the ability to modify the timing cover easily and you're removing the front gear anyways I think I would personally go with the double roller... in terms of strength that is going to be your best option and most will also allow for cam degree adjustments.

I've been using the LS2 chains for years. I've seen a couple double rollers lose links in that same time period. Never seen an LS2 lose a link.

I like the simplicity of the single chain. I wouldn't worry about it unless you're turning big RPM or running extreme spring pressure. Get the cloyes billet timing set with Extreme duty chain; you'll be more than happy.

Ive used a Rollermaster and ComCams double on my LS6 then LS2.

I did not have to clearance anything to make it fit.

Although when I added the HV Melling pump, I did have to clearance both pump and timing cover ( old LS6 timing cover used throughout )

Rollmaster double here with a TSP ls6 oil pump, I didn't have to do any thing to the timing cover. Just shim the oil pump.

I put a ls2 chain in my 5.3 yukon xl last year when I rebuild the motor and it was a noticeable differance in thickness next to the stock chain.

Everyone keeps talking like it is hard to modify the timing cover to fit a double? It takes a whole 30 minutes of time, a dremel or equivalent, and about a 5th grade level of common sense.

Is it only the later covers need modifying or something ? because the older ones certainly dont.

From what I understand, the C5R was created out of necessity when the c5r's where breaking the chains on a couple instances. Come to pass, it was discovered that the chain was whipping at specific rpms, causing it to break. Add a timing chain damper, like the ls2's have, and problem solved.

Haha. so true..... It's a cake walk. No harder then sanding your valve covers......lol

On another note to everyone, in my research, a C5R timing chain has never, ever broken........

My engine that was built in 2002 needed to be ground to fit my double chain I had on my 427ci (LS6 resleeved engine).

My new 390ci used the same cover for my new double chain and it fit and cleared the chain perfectly.

Took me about an hour to clearance my Summit timing cover mainly because I was scared to take too much off of it. Grind, test, repeat about 20 times.

Do standard gm oil pumps, such as the ls6 pump, clear the double row timing chain? Or would they need to be shimmed. I'm leaning towards the double row since it so much cheaper in price

I'm planning on turning it 6500 ish no more than 7000
