how much power will a 4.8 make.
Im building a race car 96 mustang with turbo LS swap. It is an all out drag car but 6 liters are getying hard to come by and the ones that are out there everyone wanys Top Top dollar. i have found a few 4.8s. And i also found a 6.0 priced ok but its 4 hrs one way away.guess my question is will i be able to make big power out of a big single turbo 4.8. Or should i not even waste my time. ?

IMHO, you will be on the edge of the rods limits to run mid 8's. It can be done, but for how long is a question. Forged rods and pistons and it will last at that level with a good tune. Just my $0.02.
Good Luck.

they all will bend the rods at about the same whp the only different is you run alittle more boost with the smaller engines. So it really doesn't matter, 800whp in a 4.8 @ 20+ psi and bend the rods or do the same with a 6.0L ... 800whp at alittle less boost and bend the rods.

Whatever is cheapest IMHO. You can't ask a stock longblock to hold up too long if running max effort. Doesn't matter which one you use, it won't let you run mid 8's long, unless your car is 2400 lbs..... The 4.8 will get you as much power with boost as the 6.0, it just may take a few more pounds to do it.
If your goal is to run mid 8's you better pay the extra money now to get a forged short block. The 6.0 will be easier to find forged pistons for if that helps.
What does the car weigh?

Naturally aspirated you should go with bigger cubes. Forced induction on a stock motor you should go with whichever is cheaper. Given they have the same rods they will hold roughly the same amount of power before breaking. The 4.8 will run to a much higher RPM which will be better for drag racing if you're trying to squeeze the best ET out of it. It also has the shortest stroke which means less leverage on the rods from the crank and less side load on the pistons.
Things like this would technically make the 4.8 the strongest stock shortblock for boost.
You're doing it wrong.
