Well you said "400 hp range" so why spend more than what you have to? The setup I mentioned will give you 400rwhp+
But if you would like a few more hp then there are ls6 heads. Or like you mentioned, the aftermarket heads. If I was going to buy after market heads it would be tfs 215s with head work done at tea.
I have tea ls6 stage 2 with 228 cam myself.

I havent read anything good about Patriot heads. I would go with a kit from Texas Speed.

+1 for TSP. They basically held my hand through my entire 408 build! Give em a call and they will help you make a decision based on your needs/wants!

Really, I'm using Patriot Predator 205's and Putting down 446rwhp and 408rwtq with no issues and a sweet curve on the dyno, car is a rocket. Now granted these are their aftermarket head I'm not familar with their factory cast heads but I love what I am using.

on stock 243s, with a thunder racing v.2 cheatR cam, I pulled 370whp. I since then put a ms3 in my 383 stroker with stock 243s and Im at 413whp. numbers are very low with my setup for numerous reasons. Now I just sent my 243s to Advanced Induction for a full CNC port job 232cc, milled to 58ccs and a custom grind cam. if you send your heads in and get a cam ground for you it cost about 1500. im looking for over 700whp on a 200 shot on this setup. IMO AI is one of the best for cylinder heads. a buddy of mine on a stock bottom end, AI ported and milled 243s with a mild custom ground cam and a stall, runs 11s flat in the quarter. he made 430 whp on that setup. Go AI all day.

All I can say is there was enough negative info out there about the heads to rule them out right away for me. Now if it was true or not (I cant remember its been a long time) it doesnt matter at this point. The bad info was there and thats all I know.
Glad it worked out for you

Quick Reply: good set of heads and cam?????
