Default 99' Trans Am potential?

I have a 99 TransFormula with 122000 on the clock and I was wondering if the beast has potential to run with the newer sports cars. What mods could I get for a fairly good price and see a noticeable difference? Where is a reputable place to get a cam and head combo? Is it hard to install yourself?

The LS1 is still surprisingly competitive with a lot of the newer sports cars. Start really modding it, and it will become quite the beast if you so choose Texas Speed is a good place to check out. My HCI build was through them, and I am very happy with it

When I bought the car I wanted something powerful that I could keep adding to which from all the research I've been doing is one of the more popular racing platforms but what kind of mods could I get before the pro charger and all.

I'm assuming the car is stock then? What kind of budget do you have right now? Basic mods like exhaust, air induction, maybe gears and some tuning, etc...Are you looking to build the internals of the motor, or just run that Procharger on the stock internals?

The car right now has long tube headers, full 3" exhaust y piping, SLP lid and I was told it had a tune. I really would spend up to about 5k right now

Well besides fuel injectors, fuel pump, and different plugs I think you are ready for that Procharger then You will need a retune of course. Or you could go with a nice HCI combo, but it won't make as much power as the supercharger

So A pro charger would give it more power than the HCI combo?

Yes definitely! Even the most radical high end HCI combo might net you 500 rwhp if you're lucky. You could easily do 500-550 rwhp with the blower and have great drivability to boot

Have you ever had a clutch "fail" and then start being able to be used again when the car has been shut off? Mine lost pressure and I went to check it a little bit later and it works as of it never happened? And I'd love to see my bird making that much power. Super chicken!

Remember though forced induction application will always end up over your initial budget.

if i were you i'd get a decent H/C setup and save the money for the parts that could be broken down the road, because IMO with 122k on the clock it's always wise to have some money just in case something's not going right.

Never had that happen with a clutch. What's wrong with the tranny?

As far as you trans goes....i'm not sure what's happening there, but I would have it checked out before throwing big power at it. If all is good your biggest weak links are going to be your clutch (if it's stock) and your stock rear end. Now if you don't beat the hell out of it, run sticky tires, etc...then you migh be okay for some time, but it's really a gamble. I'm running a aftermarket clutch, but with basically a stock rear end, and i'll be hitting it with a 100 shot here in the next few weeks

well i would take care of that first before throwing money for power adders, since it's the first time it happened maybe it's on its way out. Not saying that it's definitely the problem but i would look at it first. beside exhaust what other bolt ons do you have?

HCI2000 we got the same cam dude, how do you like the TV 2?

while you have a big chunk like that to throw at it get the rear end out of the way , being able to launch fearlessly will be nice

I like it! It's definitely a good fit with theses heads and the 4.10 gears IMO. How about you? With your setup I bet it runs pretty damn strong

i love this cam, and it's making the number it's supposed to make with these heads IMO, but im planning to switch to something bigger in the near future to maximize the potential of these heads.
