TREX Cam in a 5.3
I am currently building a 5.3 for my S10, and have a couple of questions, my first one is obviously that cam is too big for my displacement, but how far would i have to take the 5.3 to get to the stock ls1 bore? And by doing this will i be ok runnin the TREX cam ?
Thanks

Well, your bore in the 5.3 is about 3.78" and the bore in the LS1 is 3.9". So you'll have to get at least .12" out of an overbore. I don't know anything about the structure of the Gen3 motors but that much overbore on the older ones is HUGE. You can't really do it unless you have a Dart block. Considering the use of sleeves on the LS1, I would say you can't get much bore out of the 5.3 either. Just a guess though. I would try a stroker crank and not worry about the bore as much. Just my .02.

Well, the problem with the 5.3 isn't so much cubes as it is bore size. the hole is so small that you start getting flow issues in the cylinder. I would think about a reverse split cam for the 5.3 and you will see better results. Now I have seen 5.3's bored to 3.90 bore and they worked...i would question as to how long it would work based on the individual block. I would definately have it sonic tested first. You will also have $$ issues finding off the shelf pistons for the 5.3 as i don't think anyone really makes anything but stock bore for them. My .02.
