Default speed-o-motive (CA) 383 stroker short blocks?

http://www.speedomotive.com/LS-1%20A...0383%20CID.htm

says about 4K you get an assembled 383 ls1 short block. they use their own "in house" rods (could be eagle, maybe not). what do you all think of this deal? is it a deal? because i ordered some parts from them years ago but arent sure of how they are currently.

balanced blueprinted JE pistons, H-beam rods, and a 4" crank (just says 4340).

I've heard of a few people who have had issues with their old style SBC strokers. When I was looking into 383s for my Corvette, I was told to STAY AWAY from them!!! I have one friend who bought a shortblock from them, the rod hit the cylinder wall as soon as the motor was fired up, and they basically told him to F-off, that it wasn't their responsibility. He's been on a mission to talk trash about them ever since.

YMMV.

I think Chad (can't think of his username right now) got his motor from them on Missouri F-Body. He seemed happy with it.

yea i was the one that refered chad to speed o motive a few years ago. like i said i have dealt with the company before on rotating assemblies but never a crate motor. Chad had problems getting his motor in, it took weeks longer than expected. didnt know if this was an issolated incident. this is for a neighbor looking for something cheap to fix up a torn motor and added cubes would be great, esp at that price completely assembled. any other thoughts.

I would use APE. They can get you one for about the same price and you know what parts are in it.

Agreed. I would go with AP.
AP is 3600 and change for a 383 complete shortblock with LS6 block using a eagle 4" crank. I cant imagine anyone being at 4 thousand using a good crank.
Call and get details on the crank before you do anything.
Give AP a call.
