Default Bell housing crack

hey guys I was in the middle of a Clutch swap in my 99 SS and discovered after pulling the trans back a piece of metal fell to the ground as I pulled the tranny completely out I notice the piece of metal was a 2.5" on the pressure plate Ear was missing. The piece of metal was flying around in the bell housing and put a 1" hole in the side with 1.5" hair line crack. My question is
can I JB weld the hole drill a small hole on the bottom of the crack to stop further cracking? will there be plenty of strength to support my tranny. I don't ever go to the Track. car makes around 430-440 RWHP.
Thanks
Sean
