Is this in your 1951 Allard J2, your 2003 Pontiac Aztek, or some other car?

Fix the ground under the hood support first.

Wire brush and a star washer.

heavy, since they're both within the same range, this is telling me he needs a thermostat or maybe water pump...

john, does it go down at all when you turn the heat up to 90* and run it at full blast?

Monitor the temps and turn on every electrical device.

High beams, fogs, A/C and see if the temp jumps up and then down when turned off.

If it does, fix your grounds first.

Then look at the sensor(s).

Normal unless there are mods done such as low temp T-stat and tune that changed OE fan settings.

I think I need to do this to my '04.

My oil temp seems to run a bit high (230-240's), and it'll jump up and down repeatedly while I sit there watching it.

Thanks.

Yup. I was worried too until I read that link.

When sitting at idle (with no flow over the radiator) it is IMPOSSIBLE for your car to run cooler than 226 when at minimum the low fan kicks on.

Unless of course, you're modded, or have some magical radiator that is efficient enough to cool the coolant without the fan being on.

i've never seen my water temp above 200F. it'll hover @ 190-195

oil temp on the other hand is usually @ 230-250F but i haven't gotten around to checking the grounds. i'm sure they're due for a cleaning, star washer since it sits outside 24/7

Let it sit in your driveway idling, watching the temp and listening for the fans.

I'm certain it won't stay at 190-195 unless your fans are kicking on, in which case, it's likely your car has been reprogrammed.

In warm weather, my car will go up into the 220's when going through drive-thrus.

coolant temp stays under 200 with W4M tune usually 190, same with stock except in traffic it would get up to the 215 range when fans would kick in.

My oil temp does not exceed 175 during my 16 mile commute, even with traffic, in the 40 degree weather currently.

Same here oil never sees 200 unless I am at the track; maybe the ls2's run cooler compared the ls6 based v1 even after the gauges are properly ground.
