Default Th400 converter play

Picked up a th400 and it came with an unknown brand converter, I think it might be a custom built converter, "3800 stall" was written on the backside with a grease pen. Tranny and converter came out of a good running low 11 second camaro, it was only removed to swap to a stick.

With the converter fully seated it has a lot of play up and down/side to side. Maybe about an inch (little more?) of play give or take, more than I have ever seen. The front pilot, shaft on the converter and the front bushing in the tranny aLl look good. Is this much play acceptable?

The input shaft on the tranny is normal/tight

Doesn't look like converter is seated all the way in the transmission.
