Stock crank, Compstar rods, Diamond pistons, Total Seal rings with steel top rings, ARP head studs, GM MLS head gaskets and find a machine shop that has LS torque plates. Bob

How low is the budget? Are you wanting to run stock bottom end or a forged pist/rod combo? Hp goals?

yeah i would say your motor is already built from the junkyard.

i have a friend running 9lbs of boost on street tires in a 5.3 fox, stock cam, springs, you name it, just went 11.5 @ 120 lol

and then i have a friend with a 5.3, stock just valvesprings and head studs, twin 57mm ebay turbos and i tuned that car and it went 9.70@ 142 running out of gear. 24lbs of boost

so, what are you looking to do, i would say you are looking to throw out money haha

I'd say, stock bottom end, redo existing heads (Larger intake valves and a port job), and get a good cam spec'd. Push 20ish psi and you're in the high 8's to low 9's. Oh... and a big turbo.

CHEAP.... I'm going to re ring and bearing it possibly and a cam... I want less than 2000 in the motor itself... Now what size turbo should I look for budget?

Put in rings, bearings, dual valve springs, LS9 head gaskets and studs.

If you have modest power goals, 70-76 MM, .96 A/R.

I have a 2005 4.8L that I'm building right now ($450) for a 72 Camaro. I did the rings and rod bearings (<$200), put in a 228/234 cam (~.600 lift) on 114 LSA ($375), and the heads ported, decked, new springs, and new (2.02 intake) valves ($1200). Same boat as you... l have right around $2k in the motor. I'm putting on Twin On3 70mm Turbos. (Inspired by Wicked69 and his Chevelle).

What is your budget for the turbo. I consider the S400 series Borg Warners a steal for what they are. You can get a 1000 hp capable turbo for right around $800-$900. If you are wanting less than 700 hp, the On3 76mm for $350 is a good choice or the Ebay GT45 turbos with their larger turbine wheel. I would not worry about heads...just turn up the boost another psi!

If I knew more about the motor I would run as is with head studs, gaskets cam/springs but it was supposedly using oil so I suspect rings gummed up in lands on pistons so I'm gonna pull it apart before it goes in. As far as turbo, 500 ponies is fine with me so don't need anything to large... Like I said this truck is rough and I want the motor to kinda look rough also! I don't even want to clean the heads or block before it goes in... Just want a couple camaros here to eat smoke from a pile of crap.. Acquaintances of mine!
