Default Quick question

On the WS6, was the rear wing not used on the conv. Like it was on the t-top and hard tops?

1) The T/A's "uplevel" rear spoiler used on the coupes has nothing to do w/ the WS6 package. This item used to be an option on T/As up through '97 (I think), but it became standard on all T/As by '98. Note that WS6 Formulas do not have this "uplevel" spoiler since it is not available on Formulas. Its a T/A thing, not a WS6 thing.

2) Pontiac's implementation of this wing on the rear hatch of the coupes did not lend itself to simple (read inexpensive) adaptation to the rear deck of the 'verts. Unlike the rear spoiler used on Z28s and SSs where the same piece was used on both coupes and 'verts, the "uplevel" spoiler of the T/A coupe hatch blended into the fenders and "winglets" differently than on the 'vert. Thus, it would have required a new mold for a 'vert-unique "uplevel" spoiler, which would have cost money to develop. Considering the relatively low production of 'verts compare to coupes, GM obviously didn't think it was a worthwhile investment. There may have also been issues with rear visibility through the smaller 'vert rear window (w/ the top up) had a spoiler been right in the line of sight, there may have been DOT roadblocks to this combo too.

That's the only way you'd ever get a WS6 with a hard top. All Trans Ams have T-tops, except for 2 cars they made in '98, and I don't think they got the WS6 package.. A Formula WS6 would also have the Firebird spoiler, not the Trans Am up-level spoiler. The 1LE Firebirds were all WS6 Formula hardtops.

And this includes the 2001-2002 Formulas?

Pontiac stopped offering the WS6 option on Formulas after '00. So no 1LE Firebirds in '01-'02 either (RPO 1LE required RPO WS6 and neither the A4 trans nor t-tops were available w/ 1LE on Firebirds). SLP still offered their version of the 1LE suspension in '01 and '02 on Firehawks. Not sure if it was avail on both 'Hawk Formulas and T/As or just one or the other.

Interestingly, SLP did offer the uplevel spoiler (RPO T43) as an option on Firehawks in '96 & '97 when all you could get was a Formula 'Hawk (no T/A 'Hawks were available until '99). I've actually seen one of these rare combos around town, a Formula w/ the T/A uplift spoiler. As far as SLP was concerned, it was a simple hatch swap for them. T43 was optional on T/As from '94-'96 and became standard equipment on T/As from '97 on. So there are alot of LT1 T/As built w/ the standard low spoiler.

SLP's Bilstein package was available on both T/As and Formulas.

I didn't know that one... The LS1 Formula Firehawks only came with the Firebird spoiler, and then SLP also had their optional Firehawk spoiler that was kinda like a slightly higher version of the Formula spoiler.
