Default ignition key question

I am swtching my steering column because the tilt is way loose , I bought one today with a key , do I have to switch my ingition switch from the old column to the new column

Yes unless you do a vats relearn to program the new key code into the bcm

I think that once the BCM is set for a specific resistance you can only do a bypass or use an ignition key with that same resistance. It doesn't need to be the original key as I've swapped my switch and had the new key cut to match the old resistance.
