Default My next step = Heads

I have an ls2 making 418whp. Fast 102, vengeance racing cam (no known specs), headers, exhaust. I come from German cars and am pretty knowledgeable about those cars but not these at all. I am ready to take the next step and put heads on my 06 V. I will install myself so only cost is parts. I am on a budget and willing to spare a few HP to save a few bucks. I considered a set of used ls6 heads and work them. Please give me some advice. And from what I read I should expect about 460ish whp after heads?

LS3 heads have a larger combustion chamber than 243 casting heads. You'll lose about a point of compression if you put them on a LS2 engine, unless you mill them 0.030" and flycut your pistons for PTV clearance. If you did all of that, you'd probably make 460 RWHP.

Fly cutting pistons is not needed unless you have some crazy camshaft

Your ls2 heads are the same exact castings as ls6 heads.. Only thing different is the valves. Just have yours ported if u want to stay with GM castings

You could always buy a nice set of cathedral port heads since you already have a good intake.

tune time did that on a customers car with there spec'd cam and a stock ls3 intake manifold and the car put down just over that ! my tuner said that car was an absolute beast! i say DO IT, really nice power all motor! actually pretty torquey for an N/A setup as well.

IMHO, go with some good cathedral port heads. LS3 heads will require a new intake and cam to match the heads. I wouldn't over-complicate it. Your setup already has good potential.

What would be the cost to work my ls2 heads, roughly speaking? And what type #s should I see?

My advice would be to figure out what the specs of the cam was before you decide what heads would best fit your situation...

Guessing the cam would need to be removed to find out specs

I think there is a way to find out but not sure. Maybe someone more experienced can chime in.

U would have to pull the rear cam inspection plate to see it in the motor. That involves pulling the trans and bell.. Taking the clutch and flywheel off and the the rear cover just to get to the plate. But u deff need to know what's in there.

Send your heads to Advanced Induction, get this done http://www.advancedinduction.com/LSX...cGMLS2Head.php

I have a set sitting in my basement that went to AI. A good friend of mine owns a shop and tunes LS motors and it's where he sends all of his customer's heads. I saw too many cars picking up RWHP in the high 30's low 40's. I think 1 netted around 48 horsepower at the wheels, but had a pretty healthy compressing increase.

Personally if you already have a cam and fast 102 Id throw some aftermarket heads on like said Trickflow as cast 220s or AFRs if you can afford it. Stay away from Dart. You will see around 440 with ported ls6s though so thats not a bad option it just wouldnt be my preference.

If you do aftermarket heads you will be in the midd 2k range. Advance Induction quoted me $1100 with return shipping to do the 232cc port job on my stock ls2 heads. just to give you a quick price refrence.

Swap for an ls3 top end, get the heads from texas-speed and a new intake and sell what you have, you will most likely break under 2k doing that. And you dont have to worry about PTV clearance unless you have VVT your valves will never high five your pistons. Going rectangle will give you more then you thought of
