I have cam, ported heads bolt on LS1 and now want to put a better convertor in it. I have read about going at least 3600. I was wondering why not go 4k or 4200 with the lock up convertor? For those with experience should I go 3600-3800 or go ahead and get the 4k??? the car is not my DD and will see some track duty but mostly on the street. What are the difference in street manners with the 3600 vs the 4k. and does it affect mpg that drastically. I will be spraying 100-150 shot max on the car. 2001 TA stock short block. How much faster will the 4k be over the 3600 from a dig and from a roll. I am on drag radials now. i am in Houston so will be going with Circle D probably the 245mm pro1 billet cover. Just need honest real advice on the stall. I want it to fly on the motor and really get it on the nitrous.

If my car was more track oriented I would have gone 4k and up.
Seeing how my car is mostly a street car i'm glad I went 3600. My car is not a dd but I put about 10k miles on it a year. The stall is perfect.

I know it's not an ls1, but my lt1 camaro had an ss3600, and I don't think a 4000 would have been too much different. If I had found a deal on a 4k I would have gone that way before I sold the car. Best bet is to call circle d, from what I read those guys are getting it done.

I got a 3800 4c on the way.you didn't mention what rear gear your running 2.73 gear will make converter looser than if you have 3.42 or 3.73s it would be tighter.but just call chris at circle d.

Metlic, After carefull consideration of your post I would suggest that you get a converter that is built to run with nitrous. We offer several different combinations for this. The SRLS6391 is a specific built converter for nitrous and will still give you a flash stall at 4200. This converter will drive fair under light pedal and shine once the nitrous is on. We build other 4000 plus stalls but this would fit your need.Give me a call at the shop if you have any questions. Anyone you choose to go with I would recomend getting a custom built piece.

Well, I would say go with the 3600 if you plan on spraying your ride sometimes. As for gear choice and since you will be street driving 99% of the time, 3.42 would be the better choice to help with going stop light to stop light. I have a 4000 yank and love it along with my 3.73 gear and it drives great ,but I plan on going to a 3.42 this summer myself cause I'm tired of the whine noise I have. i'm gettin' old .

My ss3600 and 3.91 rear gears my car drives fine in traffic and no issues at all. I dont have a nitrous stall but will be spraying the new motor next season after funds recoup after the new motor build, will handle 400-500 shot if i want. With that small of shot just go with a 3600 or 3800 depending on who ever you go through.

If you plan on keeping the 3.23s I'd stick with a 3600.

I got a 3600 with 3.73"s and I really like it. 4k wouldn't be bad, but it's all n what you plan to do with car. 3600 will be fine for street as will 4k, if your looking for sole performance, go with 4k

Thanks for the advice. It is definitely more performance minded as its not my DD. It has a C D 3200 in there now and you cant tell it has one after a few days of driving it. Im thinking 4k and let it eat. Might go to 3.73s or 3.90s later if its too loose down low. Not a grocery getter anyway.

I am running a 4k stall with a cam in my gto. The car has DD street manners. I would go with 4k, you wont be dissapointed.

I'm running an ss3600 and for the way in drive the car it's fine. The car was my DD with stock 3.23s for a while and I didn't have a problem driving it.

I'm running an FTI3500 with a 4.11 gear. It's my only vehicle that gets 12,000 miles a year in Orlando. B&M trans cooler w/o fan. Decent 230/236 114+4 cam in a 383. Lockup at 40. I DD my car with a SS4000 and stock 3.23 for a good year so so. Then switched to 3.73s. I say go for the 4k+ stalls.

I went from a vigilante 3200 stall to a circle D 4000. The 4k drove the same as a 3200. The 4000 was a monster. I loved it. I wouldn't go any smaller than a 4k. But if u think that might still be too much go with a 3800!!!
