Default 98 camaro wont drive in reverse

ran into a strange issue last night.
my camaro will shift into reverse but it wont drive. what i mean is, it wants to go back but its like something is holding it in place. almost like im brake torquing in reverse. the forward gears are fine.
any ideas on what it could be?
i know it probably sounds weird

Only thing I know of that will cause reverse to bind is a blown valve body gasket or mismatched parts/improperly installed parts. If you are 100% positive that its the transmission and it has not been apart lately I would have to guess a V/B gasket is blown. Other things to look at is brake calipers partially falling off and binding and rear end binding up in reverse.

Could be the 1-2 or 3-4 accumulators broken keeping the band applied or as mentioned a blown VB gasket.

Does sound like something is applying the band.
The VB, gaskets and accumulators can all be checked/fixed from underneath without removing the trans. Hopefully that is all it is.

Thanks for the "update". We were close though - within a couple yards.
