Default Which cam is better??

Currently looking at these, but dont know which one is better since i have zero experience with cams.

1) TR224
2) TSP Custom 224R Cam: 224/224, .581"/.581", 112 LSA
3) TSP Custom 224 Cam: 224/224, .566"/.566", 112 LSA
4) TSP Custom 228R Cam: 228/228, .588"/.588", 112 LSA
5) any other brands you guys would suggest

Also, what is the deal with this cam, TSP Custom 228R Reverse-Split Pattern Cam: 228/224, .588"/.581", 112 LSA

Thanks guys

better is relative term. the 228R will net you the most power. check the cam disscussion threads by J-Rod, it'l help you understand the differences by looking at the duration @ .006 to find out which has the more agressive lobe and hence more power. but honestly there would be only a few peak hp differences betwwen them.

I like the 228R from that list, we also just released a new 225 lobe that has been having good results although its not listed on the website. Check out the Dyno Forum for a few initial results.

better to me is...

a cam that has a broad range of power
a cam that is ok for a daily driver after tuning (will be re-tuned at tsp)
sound is not that big of a deal (yet i am going to replace my resonator with a bullet most likely when i get some extra money)

Also, what i want to see is around 400 RWHP (is this even possible) and i am willing to sacrifice a few HP to increase my hp/tq range to make a flatter line.

thanks alot

How does the comp cam 224/224 .581 112 using XE-R compare to TSP's version....I was thinking they use slightly softer lobes????

tsp 225

228 was an awesome cam, but I think the 225 would suit you better.

Other than the extra 30 or so rwhp..the 224/224 .563 114lsa cam is so close to stock its funny...I had the guys over at ttp put in the dual crane spring kit and last night we went to pick up a buddies C5 coupe with the G2X5 lg cam/headers/no cats and corsas..

We were laughing cause you couldn't even hear my car next to his...

plus the ride down in my Z06 with the 224 cam is so close to stock sounding..

I'd be surprised if anyone thats not a gear head could even tell there's a cam in there..

This is exactly what I was looking for so this cam is good for me..

My bud was looking for a kick *** killer machine that lopes...

He's thrilled with his..

Just depends on what your looking for..

All I can say is..this baby 224/224 114lsa cam is with the good tuning of George Benson..a nice sleeper making 396 rwhp and 380 rw lb/ft of torque

I threw the ASP pully in at the same time..

Thats another totally invisable stealth mod.

Good luck..

All I can suggest is hook up with a few buds with these cams if you can....b/c I never would have believed how stealth like these relatively mild but pretty powerful emissions friendly cams can be..

The dual cranes should give me in the area of 25K miles on the street or 15K miles worth of drag racing..(which I probably won't be doing)

The only thing that may grab me from swapping out the springs earlier than 25K miles..is the new AFR heads sound like something I may try next year..

(just installed the cam/spring kit) two /three weeks ago.

Good luck..just know these cams with the usual ls1edit tuning are great daily drivers..IMHO

Acceleration seems more brutal..but given it was a heads and cam car with no cats..compared to a very civilized Z06.

The G5X2 isn't emissions friendly so it wasn't an option for me personally..

His car was rocking and loud and a blast for sure..

Pretty much comes down to picking your poison..

What do you want..

I wanted a totally civilized package..

I could have gone with the TTP equalizer cam for the same money I spent on the 224/224 114 lsa cam..and made 40 more ponies too..

Just couldn't live with not passing both the sniffer emissions test and the plug in pcm test..

I wanted a car that was stealth like and the 224/224 114 TTP cam gave that to me..

Drives just like a stock Z06 with 400rwhp..

TTP EQualizer or LG's cam will be a wild *** ride thats faster but its a different type of machine..

FWIW...I could if I wanted....sell my car to someone and they couldn't even tell there was a cam in the car..They'd just think its one FAST Z06...

400 rwhp...in a 3100 lb Z06 is a nice package..

At 45 years old..I need a more civilized cam package..than my buddy whose in his twenties who wants a wild @ss machine packed with fun..

PS...I did those cars back twenty years ago and they were great but in some ways a big pia..and I don't have the room for those types of issues in this time of life..

Hope this helps.

With tuning almost any Cam up to the Trex (242/248)works good.
I consider a 224 a stock replacement type Cam.Gives good power across the rev range and idles like stock at 850rpm(with tuning of course)
Next step is a 228 through 232.They have a mild lope and better power across the rev range than the 224.
234 and bigger give some good lope with idle at 900rpm.Also can affect low rpm ranges up to 2000rpm on how big you go.4.11 gears work great with the bigger Cams.I've done a 242/246 cam in a car with 4.11's and it could easilly be daily driven in city traffic.

G5X2 cams and the G5X3 cams are looking very promising these days with stock LS1.6 heads!
