Default New Driveshaft Installed

Finally drove my car for first time in a while. The new driveshaft is in, first of its knd in a V1. I think there are a few in some 5th Gen camaros and maybe even v2s.

Only drove car briefly last night but first impression is smooth and better power delivery, throttle response seems to be marginally better.

I do not have the horrible vibration in the center console under load which was obviously coming from the carrier bearing on the 2 piece. Nothing is making noise in the cabin anymore.

I only drove the car around town but I did manage a few brief bursts to 70 and it is alot smoother than I remember from last time driving it. Hope to get it out on the highway soon and run it out and see about top end.

Thanks to Frank over at the Driveshaft Shop (I may acutally be able to drive my car on a normal basis for the first time in about a year and a half.

Default Shifter Clearance

Clearance by design. I got a test shaft, measured how long the axle style bar needed to be to get the driveshaft tube away form it, and Frank used a shallower CV in the front, also clears the shift linkage rods.

You will have to call Frank at DSS.

It requires the front trans adapter, and I have a Billet CV style yoke on the
9" that Strange made, which is where my center section came from so no issues.

Based on the length of the shaft only being 48", I think Frank said somewhere around 180 ish based on some quick calculations.

Is the carbon fiber shaft available yet?
I think they were doing a redo on it?

OP, what was your stock RWHP before the Kooks and clutch change? Who tuned it?

I would be interested in info on a 200+ shaft.

DSS?

This would also be a easy option for 8.8 swapped cars. 05+ mustangs come with a beefy CV pinion flange. Would be a simple shaft for DSS to make, they already make a 1 piece for the 05 stangs.

8.8 CV flange on the right.

I was under the impression the aluminum was ~150mph and the carbon fiber was 250 or some sort of ridiculous number we'd never reach.

I do not have a tune, and no idea what I had before the headers and cats. Wish I had a baseline.

The typical aluminum 1 piece is about 150 mph, but this has a different design and the 3.5" tube is only 48" long versus the 52+ it usually is depending on the adapter used, the pinion, rearend etc.

I have a 9" with the Strange Pinion yoke that stick out pretty far. THe 9" is already longer out front than the stock diff DS mounting point, then the long pinion yoke sucks up more of the space meaning a shorter DS. Then the front CV style 300m bar on this is designed specifically to clear the shifter, i.e. its longer than the BACK CV style 300m bar with no detrimental affect on the critical speed. Plus the Adapter for a CV in the front is about 1.5" thick, vs the @ 3/4 inch adapter with a 2 piece. So all said and done, a 48" tube will have a higher rating.

If you have aftermarket exhaust, get a 4" aluminum and dont worry about the speed rating. It will fit. I only had to flatten out the top of my factory resonator heat shield a little to get clearance for this setup. I like mine quiet.

The carbon fiber has bonding "GLUE" for lack of proper term that escapes me at the moment. It just needs the exhaust to be taped with header wrap near the bond points on the shaft.

I am happy, feels like the driveshaft slack is gone, actually cant get the car to wheelhop like it would before, not sure the shaft did anything other than allow better power transfer.

I no longer have the center consloe vibrations while underload "accelerating hard" from the carrier bearing. I did have a vibration before that was noticable in the seat at about 70-75, and it is gone.

I am pleased and would not hesitate to recommend this for someone as an option for their 9". I am sure Frank can get the measurements for an 8.8 and get one made for it too.

A REDO? Do tell. I still have one purchased last year-ish still sitting in the box.

Frank, is this something I should return and exchange? Probably purchased it around Feb-Apr 2012.

It may have just been me not remembering about the 300 degree part for the bonding. I'd like to run the carbon fiber one but I'm concerned it won't hold up for racing with the headers and cat back in close proximity...
