Default Trans Am Radio Issues???

Hey guys, I've used the Forum quite a lot for tips with my Trans Am. But now, I need some help. The radio in the T/A is horrible (CD Player Specifically). It always skips on the slightest of bumps and is scratching my CD's fairly bad. The radio is also much quieter than the CD at the same volume. I am certain that I need a new something, vs a fix. My questions are, what needs replacing? and what will work? I hate the aftermarket radios, so could I get like a stock Corvette radio in it?? ANy help would be great, thanks in advance guys!

My stock radio also went to crap. The in-dash CD never worked, and the volume control on the deck didn't work all the time. I bought a factory 12-disc changer but then it stopped working last summer. I didn't want to go aftermarket either, so I went on eBay and found a guy who rebuilds them and even puts on AUX input to use with a MP3 player. I put it in, and everything works again, even the cd changer.

I don't how they repair them, but the best solution is find a stock replacement on here or on eBay. The Camaro deck will work and I believe certain Corvette models as well, but the lighting will not match.

Ahh yes, the classic red backlighting, some of my friends dislike it. Personally, I enjoy it. Where did you find the guy who repairs them?? Ebay??? And is there any way to change the lighting??

I found mine on eBay by searching for "Trans Am Monsoon radio".

theyre going for about 235 to your door. Kinda pricey but hey he did all the work for you since it seems like using aftermarket head units is a pain in the 4th gens

No, installing an aftermarket head unit is as simple as getting a mounting kit (to make the single DIN fit the 1.5 DIN opening), a harness adapter (to simplify the wiring), and an antenna adapter. All told, maybe $40 worth of adapters and it will plug right in. Another $40 and you can have the steering wheel controls working as well. 4th generation f-bodies are among the simplest HU upgrades you can do.

a 95 civic is easier, you don't even need a dash kit, just the harness.
