I've seen from 230-403 on google, anybody weighed an lt1 shortblock? Just block, crank, rods and pistons. I'm trying to figure out if my brother and I can lift my old shortblock into and out of my escape with no hoist.

Bare block is around 180lbs. Add at least another 100lbs on top of that if it's a shortblock.

Approx. 300-350#'s. If you have the leverage lifting it in and out of the engine bay which seem pretty tight and in an angle. I would at least use a cherry picker. GL.

My wife and I picked up a shortblock out of the back end of our trailblazer. Two strapping young guys should be able to handle it with out an issue.

a buddy and i did it one day, one short block w/ pan and then turned around and did a bare block... dont kid yourself these things are heavy

I've done it with a short block before but it's a LOT of weight on your fingers. Took just two guys, though.

True, but if the block has everything in it, I would never take the risk of trying to lift it with just two people.

It's on a stand right now, not in a bay, so it's about at the height of the back of the escape. I figured one person with leather gloves grabs in the coolant passages for the water pump and the other grabs the fingers for the round handle that slides into the stand. I guess ill be putting my BUFMATMUSLEPANTS name to the test! Better buy some of those spongebob anchor arms... Or I can just barrow a hoist.

Proform maks a set of aluminum handles that screw into the block and make it easier to lift and manuver, that"s how I move my blocks around and I think they're about $50.

LOL... no sir. Unless dude is a champion rock climber, that won't suffice. Just turn the block up side down and grab the front of the banks and put fingers inside cylinders 1 & 2. Other person can grab the engine stand mount. No problem!

Grab the block by the cylinders then you can set it on the one surface that doesn't matter(china rail).

$20 engine dolly then drill it and put some angle iron across and take off the casters. Keeps the engine flat and level and gives a good handle. That is how we did engines in the back of my wagon. A shortblock is doable with two guys provided you have handles of some sort.
