I worked at a Chevrolet/Cadillac dealership all through college and I'll never forget the first one that came in. A local dentist ordered it and it came in on a climate controlled Cadillac trailer from the factory.

Cadillac blew it with that car when they left out an ls motor and a manual trans, a cts v drivetrain would have made all the difference. I suppose chevy didn't want them actually competing with the corvette. Laaaaaame.

Why would they care if a limited run, low production, luxury brand car from the same parent company competed with their flagship? Seems silly. It's win:win for them. I always thought it was an LSx in it until I read the wiki.

Same reason the camaro zl1 only makes 580hp instead of the full 638 like the zr1...the gold chain hawaiian shirt wearing vette buying crowd would make a big old fuss lol

Actually saw two of these at a hyundai/ volvo dealership the other day, I was surprised; first to see myself at a hyundai/ volvo dealership, and then again to see two XLR's.

My parents had one for about 6 months then traded it off on a 08 avalanche. Fun car but i agree a total shame that they werent lls powered. 3k miles on it when they had the crank halves or whatever they call it resealed cuz it was leaking oil already.
Motor ran good but needed some tuning to get arid of all of the "parental controls" like stabilty, torque management, etc turned down or deleted. You could nail it around a corner and it would barely chirp the tires. I told them i wanted to drive it right before they sold it and i figured out how to actaully get it to spin the tires...spent about an hour wiping rubber out of the fenderwells after that one.

my friend bought one new from the dealer when he was in highschool. he paid for it all himself. it was a nice car. gm really should have put a lsx power plant in it. that car would have been 10x nicer with it in it.
