06 5.3 to a 98 4l60e. Flex plate spacer or not?
In the middle of swapping in a 2006 5.3l vortec into a 1988 Toyota Land cruiser. We have what I believe is a 1998 4l60e out of a Chevy van. We are some what confused about the flex plate spacer. Do we need one? Or do we not? We had to elongate the 3 torque converter holes slightly to get the bolts in. The flex plate came with the engine. And appears to be dished. Looking through the inspection hole I can see an air gap between the back of the torque converter and the crank shaft. I think we need a plate but don't want to buy one if not needed. What do you guys say?
Tag on the transmission says:
98MS D7
4238 182312
The sticker is missing on the top of the case.

Does the trans bell housing have a bolt hole in the 12 O'Clock position? If yes, it most likely is a 300mm input shaft trans designed for V8 LS engines. The trans tag # ids it as 1999 trans, but it could be for a V6 or something unusual.
I don't know the Vortec (truck) engines well, but thought the 5.3 would have a "standard" flat LS flexplate.
Your issues with elongating the flexplate bolts and seeing a gap makes me wonder if this is a 298mm V6 trans.
Hopefully one of the experience builders or converter experts can correct me or shed more light on it. Still everyone would like to know if this is a 298 or 300mm trans.

Thanks for the reply. There is a high chance that this tranny is from a v6. We got it from a place that works almost exclusively on v6 Chevy vans. After talking with the people who sold the engine the believe that the 2006 PCM won't be able to control the older tranny properly. Many variables.

I cannot be sure, but I think a 2006 PCM will still control any older 4L60E. Somewhere between 2006 and 2008 GM removed the 3-2 downshift solenoid from the trans (and from the PCM), but I thought it was in 2007 or 2008.
