Anyone run higher than 3800 stall in their daily driver?
I have heard that a 3800 is the highest I should go on a daily driver. I have a 3200 now and can barely tell its there; I got used to it right away. I really dont want to be kicking myself if I get a 3800 and wish I went higher; however, I also want the car to be driveable, so if I get a 4000 + and cant drive it, Ill be angry as well. My goal is to be as fast as possible with it still being driveable; I dont mind if its a little loose, as long as it can be driven in city traffic when it has to be. What do you guys think; Im stepping up to 3.73's, so that will probably take some slack out. Mods include all bolt on's and heads/cam

I'd say if your not gonna spray it. Step up to the Yank or TCI 4200 - 4400. It is a bit loose but well within what most consider driveable. You will also not be leaving any performance on the table.

I've had a few converters....
Yank Stealth-Too tight! Felt just like stock.
Yank SY3500-Pretty nice on the street with 3.73 gears with great street performance. Too mild for the track though. (Hits too soft.)
Yank TP4600-LOOSE on the street. Not nice! Simply AWESOME on the track!
TCI SSF3500-Just right on the street. A little tighter than the SY3500 even with 3.23 gears. Really good performer at the track.
Yank SS4000-A little looser than the SY3500/3.73 combo. Still, fairly nice for daily driving and a GREAT performer at the track!

I just had a vig 3200 in my car. With just bolt ons it felt ok on the street, actually felt like it was slipping, not stalling.
Then I did heads/cam/header. The 3200 felt ok till. Very easy street. Hit pretty hard from an idle.
I just buit my trans up and put a midwest 4000/2.5 str in.
The car feels stock! Almost no slippage while driving in traffic - but hit the gas rolling and blow the tires of. It is tighter than the vig 3200 ad I think more efficient.
I'd say about 4200 would be max for a bolt on stret car.
Track times coming to compare 60'

I'm about to get a good deal on a used TCS 4200...(yes..I know the deal with TCS..I'd be leary too, but I'm getting a good deal on a tranny and convertor..and this convertor has cut 1.49 60'..so it can definitely perform.) It's going in a daily driver...give me about a month for me to get it from the guy and get it installed. I'll let you know then how it is driving in Washington DC traffic everyday with a 4000+ stall.

So the 3200 was nearly identical to the factory converter? I'm in the same boat as you though.

Drivability all depends on who's driving it. I'm going with a 4400 and it'll be driven in the city, but calling it a daily driver may be stretching it alittle far. Your gears will definately help tighten it up. My old 3800 with 3.23's felt stock after a few miles of getting use to it. With 3.73's you could probably run a 4200 and be alright.

You have a lightweight car, 3.73 gears, LS6 heads and a monstor sized cam (maybe a little too big for that cam depending on LSA and degreeing.)
I'd say 1.4s are possible and mid 1.5s are a given if you can hook it.

my b/f has a PT4400 in his daily driver... it isn't too bad, but lately we have had a lot of problems and it broke... who knows....
but we are having a new one sent to us... it will be put back in the car as a daily driver...
