lsa head has blocked off vapor/steam hole... why would that be

Default lsa head has blocked off vapor/steam hole... why would that be



I purchased these heads from another member on the board and never realized this until now. Heads are brand new, why would this be

Doesn't the LSA use piston squirters to keep the pistons cool? Maybe they felt they didn't need the extra flow there, just a hunch.

Possibly internal waterways are different and less susceptible to airlocks at those locations.

I'd still be inclined to drill it out and use them though unless you were sure of the above.

Only one of the four holes has this rivet thing, just gonna knock it out and run the vapor lines

my 2008 4.8 with 799 heads are blocked off like that too.

i believe its a sign from the chevy gods telling you to disregard steam ports

Perhaps, but those same gods arent ramming boost into their engines and developing heat and hot spots in the same manner many here are.

IMO it isnt difficult to use them and it makes sense to do so.

It's cheaper to use an insert like that than to use the external bolt and plug like on the earlier heads. They still only block off the rears and leave the front open for the crossover, etc. You have to knock it out with a hammer and punch while the head is off though as it comes out the bottom and not through the top if you want to join the steamports all together.
