Default Porting truck manifolds? Also wrap question

Any reason to port truck manifolds for 317 heads? I am cleaning them up now to get ready for my turbo build and noticed from the factory vehicle they came off of that there is black residue where the head port is bigger than the manifold opening.

Also is there any reason to use the heat shields if i plan on doing a wrap? Do i need to coat them or paint them before i wrap?

and a shot of a few mins after cleaning them up.

I would measure the port in the manifold vs the port in the head. That line you see might be the gasket line, gasket is bigger than the port. If the manifold is indeed overhanging the port, go ahead and match them up. Can't hurt. Use a good die grinder and a sharp burr, the manifolds are hard!
