Default school me on a best compromise ls7 cam for street/power

Thinking of pulling the heads on the z06 given all the issues on the ls7 and sending them off to AI or WCCH to get done. While that's off, figure I'm not far away from cam swap. Car will always be a street car, will not get headers, may get an intake in the future, but not right now. Will be N/A.

Keep the stock cam or other recommendations?

Lol NO headers? Why? Your making us ChiTown'rs look bad. Jk

If you don't want headers then stay stock, and why send them off to WCCH or AI? What will they be doing?

Most guys are getting the Heads redone with bronze guides, valve jobs and stainless exhaust valves.

heads will be done because of the guide issue. If they are off, and I'm paying for guides, etc...then I might as well have AI/WCCH do them or anyone else for that matter.

I would only consider a cam if it was in the "you'll pick up 20-30hp" and it will be pretty much like stock if you do it...

and no headers, need one quiet car, camaro has headers and it gets old to just drive the car to work all week...

+1. 520+ wheel minus headers, with headers 540-550 & stock driving characteristics.

If you're going to do a cam I would have the heads ported. Otherwise you won't get much use of out extra lift. WCCH's site has the flow charts.

Yes, the head porting with stainless steel exhaust valves and bronze guides is a must as well. WCCH has the lions share of LS7 porting out there, but for my .02, I'd look and talk to Darin Morgan @ Reher Morrison for LS7 porting. Dude knows his stuff, and his porting seems to produce more power than others. The Vette forum has all sorts of opinions out there for porting C6Z's.

One more thought, the LS7 intake flows so well for NA setups a Fast 102 basically nets you no HP gain, and actually loses you a little torque. Headers will gain you 20-30 wheel, and if coated, won't cause you trouble with burnt wires or hot under hood temps. With the bi-mode exhaust on the C6Z you shouldn't see a big difference in interior noise either. Just my .02.

Thanks for the advice guys, listened to a few clips of the katech 116, sounds pretty good.

checked out this stuff from AI: http://www.advancedinduction.com/LSX...GM8452Head.php

and about $200 cheaper (and being in chicago, probably cheaper shipping too vs. WCCH)

I'm going to talk to Darin this week. Do you know any C6Zs with his heads other than Brian's 454?

They also do a good job. I had their heads on my last car. The 605whp example graph on their website is my previous z06. If they are closer to you, I'd have 0 hesitation about getting their heads.

Brian's comes to mind off the top of my head, but from talking to Darin last week, I know other shops are sending their LS7's to him for his porting programs. Brain's made over 600 wheel NA!

My AI heads made 605 with stock ls7 intake and TB. There are too many head porting options. My head hurts.

If you aren't having your heads decked get the Katech Torquer 110, not the 116. Look at the hp/torque charts, it beats the 116 EVERYWHERE. Now, if you are increasing the compression ratio by decking the heads, the DCR will be a little too high with the 110 torquer cam.

We put the 110 in a friends car with the PRC heads, stock CR, and it made 525 SAE RWHP, no headers or other boltons. Could have made a bit more if we had leaned it out a bit more, but for a road race track car, we left it a bit safer and richer.

I've ran 12:1CR with the Torquer 110.
