Default New guy is San Jose California

Hi ladies and gentlemen of LS1TECH.

I am a long time car guy into 55-57 Chevys and 65-72 Chevelles. I just discovered the Gen III engines a few weeks ago and am planning on transplanting some into my 55 Chevy, 70 Chevelle and 74 Camaro LT.

I am going to start with a 5.3 truck engine bone stock into my 70 Chevelle. I have done a lot of reading on on retrofitting the 5.3 into older cars. I still have a lot of questions and searching the forums for answers just brings up more questions.

My goal is to have a low emissions 300hp fuel injected engine for drive-ability. I am trying to keep it as low cost as possible using as much original truck parts as possible from the donor vehicles.

I already have my first 5.3 engine ready to begin the process. It is a 2000 Suburban 5.3 truck engine with factory wiring harness and ecu (or what ever they call the computer).

I will be mating this with a TH400 transmission.

I look forward to getting this in my car soon and hope to meet up with some of you this summer.

Cheers, Redchevyman (AKA Mike)

Does anyone know what kind of speed sensor I will need on my TH400? Also who sells the adapter rings for the torque converter?

Thanks

Welcome to LS1TECH Mike! Sounds like you'll have your hands full with all those project cars! Post up some photos of the cars if you get time. The 5.3 engine should be a great, reliable cruiser for sure.

I am ready to drop my engine in this weekend. I am just trying to figure out what to use for a fuel pump. Is there a retro pump that will drop into a 74 Camaro tank?
