Default Corvette regulator vs aeromotive setup

I ran a search and found lots of good info but no reasoning behind the different setups. The Corvette regulator can be run just outside the fuel tank with most pumps and a single pressure line running to a returnless fuel rail like on my LS2. Aeromotive on the other hand says their only approved setup is to run their pump, new fuel rails and their return style regulator as close to the fuel rails as possible.

So why is it the Corvette regulator works fine back by the tank but Aeromotive wants their regulator as close to the fuel rails? I'd like to run the Aeromotive regulator and pump but want to keep my oe rails and keep the regulator back by the tank on the frame rail. I also don't care for the Corvette regulator needing so many adaptors as I want to run stainless hard lines.

Anybody know?
