Another wastegate question
So I know it's not "ideal", as it is angled against the flow, but I put it here because:
The car is lowered and I want it as high as possible
Didn't want to flip it the other way because it would have to be lower to the ground (further from the turbo).
Just wondering how bad my creep is going to be with it angled this way. My only other option would be to move it down lower to the ground and turn it right side up.

There is no way to say without trying it.
But is that only in the link pipe ? ie not after any collector ?
If the w/g was larger than needed, it may still flow enough. But surely there is a better location the pipe for the w/g can go ?
the w/g doesnt need mounted directly to the pre-turbo headers. It could just as easily be mounted on a tube a few inches away, or even a foot or two if you had to.

That is right below the merge, and directly below the turbo. There is zero room above. I'm not worried about placement as in distance, but merely angle. My roomate said it would be fine since it's pressurized, and thinks the air will still do a U turn to work efficiently, but I don't think so and am now second guessing it.
Turbo is a T72 (prob 67mm wheel)

Should I get it running and see if it holds, or just go ahead and flip it right side up (45 degress the opposite way) and lower it a little to run it like that?

Here's a better angle. It's definitely angled the wrong way. I wanted to angle it the other way, but room is tight, so he kind of convinced me to weld it up this way at midnight last night and now i'm second guessing it. He's a certified Toyota tech, and a great fabricator, just not sure his turbo knowledge is as vast.

But again, if you're ready to roll, give it a try before doing anything.
It may work, but I really doubt it.
Of course as far as boost creep...you now have 2 factors working against you. W/G potentially too small and W/G badly positioned.
Your friend was right when he talked about pressure....except there is also huge volumes of airflow involved. And that air will want a smooth exit.

I'm going to pull the crossover off tonight and just weld the gate at the bottom of the bend going 45 upwards, which would give it a Y. I think that will allow me to keep the gate.

The gate is now on the bottom of the crossover right where it turns up (parallel to the ground almost). Still not ideal, because it's further from the turbo, but it's perfectly in line with the flow of the exhaust now.

Which is actually worse
As I said before and above, distance from the turbo does not matter. Flow does.

Yes, it's on the crossover. Similar to the KB kits (only getting flow from one side). Still not ideal, but there literally isn't anywhere closer that I could get it.
This is the top side and how compact it is now:
From the pics it looks like a big empty space towards the brake booster, but I would have to do some really funky turned piping and it would be at least 7-8" from the collector to be able to put it up there (and going against flow too)
I imagine I will end up needing a 50mm due to not being able to get it on the merge collector.

The only issue that I'd be concerned about right now is the difference in back pressure between bank 1 and bank 2 cyls. Not sure how that will affect performance.

I know others have had to do this before, and while it's not optimal, I'm pretty sure it will work. For a race car, I wouldn't, but for a street car that will see 10-12, MAYBE 14 lbs, I'm thinking it will work. If I have to, I'll step up to a JGS 50mm.

Pulled the crossover, cut the tube off and welded a patch over it. Haha, I found a spot in the collector that would work, but it would have to be 90 degrees. And about 6-7 inches away from the collector.
My powersteering setup is in the way. Ugh, if only I didn't enjoy it so much.

Stopped being lazy and came up with this - Above the merge, and a 45 degree angle in the direction of airflow. A little further from the turbo than I would have liked, but it looks good, and should work fine. Hopefully this 40mm will control the boost. Running 10-12 lbs. Nothing crazy.
