Default More Opti Q's...

Hey Everyone, It's been a good 5 years since I've been on this site. I've got the F-Body itch again, and thus, I'm spending money...

Current question is opti-related. A rad hose blew, and soaked my opti, and now the car won't fire up. Opti has about 5000 miles on it (and is about 5 years old.)

The car is at my mechanic's right now, and my question is, can we remove and dry out the opti and have it work OK again? OR do I need to replace it?

If replace is the option, then what are you guys using for Opti's now days? I see Chandler Motorsports on Ebay selling slick looking units for a good price, but I want to get real-world advice before I buy according to price.

Thanks to all in advance! Good to be back!

GM makes the best opti, Chandler motorsports opti's are hit or miss. MSD makes a decent unit

This is a long shot.

Try this as a last solution because ive never tried it and cant guarantee it works. But if the opti got wet, you can put it in a bowl covered with dry rice. The dry rice absorbes the moisture and theres a chance it can get electronics to work unless anything got fried. We tried it on some sort of tablet and got it working again after a few hours. Just a ghetto solution that might help.

If not, an ac delco opti is your best bet. If you look around, you might still be able to find some on sale for under 400 bucks.

No complaints with the MSD here. MSD or GM AC Delco are the only decent ones made, don't cut conrners on your Opti!

Summit was running a closeout on GM Performance optis, but they are gone. I would go Delco or Delphi. You can probably find a Delphi cheaper, and most Delcos are probably remanned at this point.

I was in contact with Chandler motorsports, and they said of 653 units sold, 13 have been returned as DOA or defective. Which includes units damaged during shipping. So their numbers seem to be pretty good.

I still don't think I'll go that route, but it's good information for anyone else in the market.

If you can believe them. Like their gonna say "Don't buy our opti, it's crap." I know I have seen more than 13 threads with dead Chandler optis. Of course, this includes all the ones that were not DOA, but died later.
