Default Best Drag Radial size and Brand?

I'm about sick of tire spin...I need some drag radials.

I have a couple of Qs.

1. I have 17" rims right now, is it better to have drag radials on a 15" rim? or is 17" ok?

2. What brand is better? I'm looking at M&H racemasters.

what are your goals for the tires?
Street use?
Track use?
How much power are you making?
Stick or Auto?

where do you live, is this your daily driver?

Need more input...

Track use only:
My plan is to only install these on track days and swap them back out for my street tires for DD duties.

I have a stick 5 speed manual, I put down 455ish to the wheels. I'm in California.

Looking at the NITTOs as well. Much better priced.

I don't care if they wear fast or not, they will not be driven on as a DD.

I have done an intensive search...seems most of the folks here plan to run them as DD tires and have concern about wear mileage. Much to say, that doesn't help make my decision as I dont care about that aspect.

Track only? Why not get slicks?

If you need to run Drag Radials, go 15" with the correct size height (most likely 26" unless you are pushing crazy power). Then a 275/50-15 is what you want. That fits an 8" or 10" wide rim.

Brand would be MT ET Streets or M&H Race Master.

MT is a proven Radial but I've seen great things from M&H as well.

If you don't need the radial, I'd go with something like Hoosier Quick Time Pro bias-ply.

It's going to be a track only tire, but I might install them and then drive to the track. Also, there is local track here that wouldn't be considered "prepped" that I want to run at. That's mainly why I wanted a drag radial and not so much a slick. I have 3.73 gears right now, just looking to see what tire is good. I was also considering what was better, a 15" or 17" for a strip tire.

15" you'll hook slightly better. The Hoosier QTP would be scary on the road, but you could do it if it's a short trip. They are DOT approved.

I think I'm sold on getting 15", but I have so much fear buying a rim set and the darn rim doesn't clear my rear brakes (Face, not diameter)! How much would I be giving up "IF" I stayed with 17"?

Almost all 15" will require a little grinding. I like the 15x10 Dark Stars. They look awesome.

10 minutes per caliper if you have a nice grinder.

In running MT et streets on 15 inch racestars and needed no grinding. You want as much sidewall as possible so I recommend the 15 inch.

On my old Z28 I ran M/T slicks a few times and had a set of NT555s and they were both good tires. The nittos hooked great on the track and street. And probably the best bang for your buck. I ran a stalled auto w/ 3.73s
