Default bigger stall swap...what did you gain?

thinking about going from 3,200 to 4,200 now that our torque peak is around 5,000 rpm. We are currently going thru the lights at 6,400 rpm but peak power is at 6,750 and carries beautifully to 7,000.
trying to gauge what gains are possible if we can still hook it. Current best 60 ft is 1.55
So, what gains did you see if you've been there and done that?

Either nobody here has been there and done that or I have somehow made a forum boo boo. I searched and searched and can't really find anything informative.

No forum boo boo; perhaps no one knows the answer.
Or perhaps it is TOP SECRET.

It's possible that you'll 60ft better as well as have a better top end pull as your shift extension will be higher and carry better through each gear keeping your car in it's powerband better

It will pick up. Depends on the Converter and how much traction as to how much but it will pick it up.

I had a vigilante 3200 and stepped up to a circle D 5c which is a 4000 stall. It outperformed that 3200 from all aspects and drove just as good. Not even a slight difference in drivability.

My car was a daily driver as well. My 5c pulled like a monster.

Thanks for the example sy99. That's not as much gain as I was expecting. What were your 60 foots?

It should have picked up more than that. Traction issues or ???? What 4k convertor??

3200 to a loose 4000... like a PT4000, CircleD 2E, or a FTI Hard Hit will net you half a second at least.

That's more along the lines of what I was expecting Jake. Thanks for the input.

If you went with a bigger cam, you could probably even go with a 4200-4400 and gain even more.

My stall has approx an 800RPM drop for the shift extension. That means, with a 6800 shift point, I'm always at 6k. If I went with a bigger cam that netted 20-30rwhp in the 6000-6800 window, I'd be faster.

Yeah, a 4,200 is what I'm already considering as stated in the first post. It would put me across the line at peak hp (6750-6,800 rpm) with the cam I currently have. I would rather make the most of the power I already make than try to make more power right now. There are already Plenty of people out there making ridiculous power but only running 12's. I was hoping for some more real world examples of the gains others have seen from a similar swap.

Your car runs well Jerry! (just saw your runs on the Tube.)
FYI I went from a 3200 no name brand stall to a Yank 4000 in my 01 camaro and my 60" went from mid .60's to high .40's
My car also stayes in the power band the whole run down the track picking me up from an 11.62 to 11.0's on the motor.
The better your car hooks the better results you will gain and notice from the higher stall...
Oh, And she is mean on the Juice too!!!

thank you! That is exactly the kind of example I was looking for and pretty close to what was expected. A real world example is nice to see. If we could get the same gains that would put us around a 10.6 or 10.7, sweeeet. Is it safe to assume you picked up around 4 mph? Nitrous is tempting but we'll just hold off on that one. It would be nice to dial the car in right before making that kind of a jump.

Yes, you are dead on. I went from 119mph to 123mph trap speed.
I would defenitaly go with the 4200 stall you are thinking about.
Just make the car work on launches and your good.

She hooked nicely for a 1.55 on killed Mickey Thompsons and is now wearing brand new ones so I'm thinking 1.4's are do'able. Andre at Edge converters can probably soften the hit a little if need be. Our best mph has been 121 mph but that was 20 rwhp ago and in 455 da. Judging by the 119 mph it just did in 2500 da we might just be in the 124 mph zone now in good air. That converter might put us real close to 128-129 mph. We also have scoops to install under the car to turn our dual cold air intake into a dual ram air intake. Ohhh, it's killing me! The anticipation!!! Maybe low 10's are possible without touching the engine?

No traction problems, consistent 1.5 60's and the convertor is Yank 4000 SS, I went from a ART CARR 2800 to the Yank 4000SS. Picking up 3 tenths I was pleased with. I think you over looked the fact that I already had a stall when I went to the 4k stall. I went from 12.2 to 11.9 N/A. That was the stock LS1 and boltons

Awesome information here! I actually just bought a stall from Edge for my car and looking for 6.80's with 445/504 in a 3300lb car.
