Question How long before I can clay and wax my freshly painted hood?

Just had hood repainted under warranty last week, and was wanting to clay and wax the car this weekend. I've heard to wait as long as 30 days. What do you guys say?

why do you need to clay? it shouldn't have much of anything on it.

did you ask your body shop?

some zaino users applied right out of the shop.

I'd probably give it 30 on the hood too.

Just had my front liscense plate cover painted. Wetsanded and buffed today, on the car with a coat of wolfgang.

I'll ask my paint guy (going back tomorrow) what he says. I'd guess if its synthetic you could do it alot sooner, but carnuba I would wait.

Oh get some good sealant Wolfgang, NXT, Menzerna MFJ, Blackfire etc. Dont use some cheapo crap..

You should wait at least 30 days before you put any type of wax on any freshly painted surface. This is because after whatever part was painted, the paint releases a number of toxins from the paint. If you wax it those toxins cant escape since the wax is there. What happens then is the toxins will find there way out no matter what, thus causing the paint and or clear to crack to release the toxins.

clay is used to remove inbedded um, stuff from your paint. if you just had your hood
reshot. don't think clay (on your hood) will do anything..

I apply zaino immediatly, if its been painted and cured in the booth your fine, painted and not cured in booth, wait 30 days. ++ You are more apt to get a chip or scratch running around for 30 days without any protectant on it, go for it and get some zaino on there, I would apply by hand.
Good luck
Andy

All I've ever used was Zaino, but am now in the process of switching over to NXT. The paint was not baked, so it looks like I'll just wait for a lil bit. Thanks guys.

My bodyman always says wait a month before SEALING fresh paint...you can polish, just don't apply wax or sealant...

Mine told me to wait 90 days. If i didn't he said that the wax would close the pores in the paint and turn it white. He said I could use mequires #7 show glaze on it though since it was silicone free. I have used this and it looks like a mirror.
