What driveshaft is 64.5 inches or bigger?
Hello all,
I'm looking for a one piece drive shaft that would be 64.5" or longer. I could have it cut down, but if it were the right size that would be great.
Can aluminum driveshafts be cut down as easily by a driveshaft shop as a steel driveshaft?
Thanks,
Brandon

There's plenty of drive shaft shops around. I had mine made it cost me $175.00 with me bringing in a old one so they could use the yokes from it. Balanced and ready to go, they gave me a bit of a deal on 2 new u-joints also. So wouldn't have to worry about it for awhile. Search the net and find one close to help on shipping costs.

With a driveshaft that long, you really need to watch out for critical speed. Here is a chart from Mark Williams:

I suggest that you find an alternative two piece design. If cost is a factor, look into using something from a CTSv and having it modified for your application. The DriveShaft shop can also build you a complete 2 piece shaft to your specs.

This is just for a stock daily driver application. It's for a vehicle I'm building that my wife will be driving. It's a 71 Pontiac and will be a family car, so high speed isn't critical. I know some trucks have longer drive shafts, but I just don't know what kinds. I'd like to just be able to find a used shaft from a junk yard for cheap, but don't know what to look for.
