Default Built 4l80e, circle d multi disk, what fluid? Synthetic?

Well figured id start a little debate since there is alot of mixed info on this. I have a freshly built 4l80e with jakes transbrake, full manual box, and circle d multi disk converter. I talked to my trans builder and he told me to run some sort of synthetic, then talked to Chris at circle d and asked about the whole synthetic not letting the converter to lock thing and he said thats a myth or atleast with his converters. At least 15-20% of his customers run a synthetic without issue. SO anyone have advice for me on picking up some fluid for my trans? Also how much does a 4l80e hold? Its going to be a 1000hp street car with some track time.

Okay, hold the phone... I'm confused. Your transmission builder AND your converter builder both said it's okay for you to use synthetic? Is that what I'm understanding here? If so, why would you question the board when two of the most respected sponsors on this site both said synthetic was safe to use on the parts they built for you?

*pictures some witch stirring a pot* is that what you're doing here? lol

You're right, I assumed it was a 4l80e that Jake built. My apologies. Let the debate begin.

Why wouldn't you use Dexron VI? Valvoline makes a good Dexron VI syn trans fluid. So does Amsoil?

Neither performs any better. the VI holds up better to time and heat, but you should be changing it regularly anyway, and III is cheaper.

You are correct my trans builder (not jake just some parts) and circle d say synthetic is fine. My question is what should I get. Brand? And I figured someone would jump on here screaming how synthetic fluid ruined their life.

I'm running Valvline Dex VI in my new GMPP 4L85E & FTI converter. No issues as of yet, everything seems to be perfect. Was just a little expensive for 13 quarts worth

I read an article recently that put ATI Super F ATF at the top. I can't seem to find the article, but here is a link to the ATF....

http://www.atiracing.com/products/tr...rts/superf.htm

And here's mention of it on YB....

Yea i almost forgot about the ATI stuff, my dad runs it in his th350 and th400 race cars. Any others people recommend? the YB link had a few good items as well. Amsoil seems to be popular.

"Amsoil claims the Initial fill on the 4L80E is 7.7 quarts and the Total fill is 14.0 quarts. If you have the extra cooler it may be a little more. I am about to do mine but have not done it yet so I do not know for certain how much it will take. I believe the GM spec is 14 quarts or so."
