Lockup and unluck points
Can the lockup and unlock points for the converter be changed through LS1 Edit?
Probably the only thing that annoys the **** out of me with the converter is that it locks up at 48mph and unlocks at 40mph. With my type of driving it friggin locks and unlocks a little too often for me.
Would changing it to something like 35 lockup and 28 unlock doing anything harmful?
Thanks!

You can make the lockup do pretty much anything you want with Edit. I have mine programmed so that it's pretty much locked most of the time that I'm in 3rd or 4th. That makes a big stall a non-factor most of the time.

Cool
How did you get it so that its locked most of the time in 3rd and 4th? I am a newb and will always be a newb when it comes to Edit. Is each gear set differently or something?

You have a by-gear, vs TPS, MPH-to-lock-above and
MPH-to-unlock-under table. You can even lock it in
2nd if you want, though the factory setting is "don't".
Getting it to play nice with altered shiftpoints has kept
me amused for a month now. A set of transmission
params I'm pretty happy with can be found at:
http://home.cfl.rr.com/jimmyblue/JWS..._20040427A.zip
and a simpler, perhaps helpful though not quite final
visualization at:
http://home.cfl.rr.com/jimmyblue/Shi...t_20040413.xls
I have taken the opposite tack from Colonel, since I
have a much smaller converter and like to make the
most of it about town (unlocked more, and pedal-
proportional).
These tables in Excel are cut-n-paste from my
HPTuners current file. Dunno if the LS1-Edit
"dialect" is the same or not, but you may find
them an interesting place to start.

Yeah, how you set it up is going to be dependent largely on preference and comination (gearing being a big factor.) I prefer my car to be in 1/2nd unlocked or 3rd locked when cruising around town at 55 MPH or less. I have it programmed not to lock up until 50 MPH at zero throttle position, 55 at low throttle position, and 60 at moderate throttle position. Almost always around town, if I'm below about 60 MPH it's going to be in 3rd and not 4th. This works great for me with 3.23 gears.

Colonel... You TQ Cnv. guru you...
Help me please if you would.
i have the Yank SY3500 with 323's & LS1Edit.( My edit guy is the master)
Anyway, i have noticed that @ 65-68 mph @ 2300 rpm's my "OD" likes to kind of slide in & slide out kinda?? you know??
It only happens @ these rpm's? Other than that it's perfect. Nothing drastic, it changes maybe 1 rpm or so?????
Could that be how it was set?? The Tq conv itself has approx 5K on it. My stock 4L60E has 141K on it. Fluids changed religiously. Car never abused. What do you think?
Sorry to steal the thread..
Matt.

hmm i'll have to play with mine a little more. mine locks somewhere around 40mph then unlocks at about 35mph (900rpm). This works well since the speed limit is 35 i can keep it in 40-45mph around 1100-1200rpm iirc. It's a pretty flat ride so im not really lugging it too much. 900rpm@35mph locked with 3.42's. Is that 3 or 4th gear? hmm.

ahhhh, 2.73 gears are starting to suck!!!
What do you guys think I should do with the 2.73s, besides throw them in the trash?
BTW I am starting to drive around a lot in 3, because leaving it in 4th around town really sucks, because either the tach will be sitting at 500rpms or it'll get stuck in 3rd gear (P0757). Then i'll just pop it into 4 when I reach about 45mph and I know I won't be dropping mph anytime soon.

Wow how did he find this thread from 2 years ago?? I can never find threads dated earlier than 1-1-06...
Anyway, it's good that he did. I was curious about the 3rd gear lockup. Is the car more responsive locked in 3rd rather than OD? Driving @ 40, on the verge of speeding, to keep the converter locked for mileage reasons really lugs the engine down. It runs at around 1100rpm (3.23 gear) and has trouble climbing hills. There are two solutions to this. One, increase the RPM for the 4th gear shift to 45 or so, for highway driving to keep the car in 3rd around town and make it lock. Two, increase the rear gear ratio to something like a 3.42 or 3.73. I would rather go this route, so I can disable TCC lockup in 3rd altogether so I can play (roll racing). It is extremely annoying hassling with a converter locking/unlocking all the time when you don't want it to, especially with a modified shift kit that makes it hit pretty hard.
Or can you do both? Can you disable TCC lockup only when you manually have the shifter in 3, and have it lock like normal when you put it back to D?

Adjusting the mph of the 3-4 gear upshift will help but you should also adjust the TCC release table for 3rd gear to keep it from lugging. Generally the TC should release or unlock at that low of rpm for better torque multiplication.

It goes 1, 2, 3, 4th (at about 35) then lock at 40ish. It does not lock in 3rd unless I manually move the shifter down to 3. IMO it's like lugging in 5th or even 6th gear in the M6 when it locks in OD at 40mph.
I think bumping 4th to about 45 and locking in 3rd instead at 35 would make this beast a lot more responsive. That is assuming that locked 3rd at 35 gives more torque (less lug) than 4th at 40? Gear ratio swap wouldn't hurt either.
If you tuned it like this, would it unlock for the shift to 4th or how does that work?
