LT1 throttle body plate/gasket question
i'm thinking about buying one of those ebay "Trans Am" throttle body plates for my car and was wondering if it is mandatory to change the gasket or if you can just pull the old TB plate off and put the new one on and leave the existing gasket in place?

I can but the one i was looking at doesnt come with one and the gasket is $8 on ebay so i'd rather not spend that much on a gasket if i don't have to. The plate itself is only $20 so $8 for a damn gasket seems steep.

the SLP ones do, but the one i'm interested in does not. it does come with new screws though.

That gasket often swells and gets rather difficult to reuse. If you look at the stocker it is likely all wavy on the edges where it hangs out, that is from swelling.
I am not a blind "replace all gaskets" believer. I have never bought LT1 valvecover gaskets, and I have reused oilpan gaskets, and I have used o-rings from the 9004 headlight bulbs(b-body) for new o-rings on the oil fill tube.
The TB topplate gaskets don't lend themselves to it though.

Well i ordered the cover and decided to take the old one off to inspect the gasket. i think i can reuse it just fine. i had to stretch a few of the holes back into place from where this pic shows it, and i ended up losing one of the damn screws somewhere down in the engine bay and it didn't fall out. i put the plate back on sans that lost screw and the car is running fine so i'm just gonna get the new plate and use it and not bother replacing the gasket. good thing the new plate comes with new screws lol.

it's installed! the gasket was pretty bent out of shape when i took it off the second time. since it appears the ebay gaskets are pretty thin and there is no cover for the inner part anyway like there was with the stock gasket, i went ahead and installed it without a gasket. the plate seems to sit flush enough. i started the car and it ran fine.
i once failed an emissions test with an SES light and slightly rough idle for an air leak coming into the bottom of the intake elbow after the MAF before i switched over to ram air. i would assume if i had an air leak from the top of the TB from that plate, the same thing would occur and it's not throwing any SES codes or idling rough.
