PTC Stall?
I had all-but accepted I'd be spending $800-900 on a Circle D 2e or Yank SS4000 converter until I read a number of threads where lemons repeatedly recommended PTC for $475 shipped. If I can save $400 that'll pay for half of the install....
My first problem is I'm not even sure where to start looking here: http://www.ptcrace.com/torque-converters-c-26.html
Is it the 9.5' TF Torque Converter?
Secondly, I have read a number of threads that repeatedly say you get what you pay for when it comes to a stall, how does PTC compare to Circle D/Yank in terms of reliability and not shredding transmissions?
Thanks!

FTI sells converters through JEGS from 2400 to 4000 stall.....priced from $159 to $329......The specs aren't listed but here's the link.
Under the street racer and street brawler series.

I've had the SB3000($300) in my street car(3.73 gears) for over a year no issues and its a fun car to drive. Certainly not as loose as a 4000, but its just a street car.

Im in the market for a stall myself and am about to commit myself to the looney bin trying to figure it all out.
The billet converters ,for the most part, have a special stator that is stationary at part throttle, giving a stock feel. At WOT it begins to spin and acts like a hi stall converter. This is info that could just be a sales pitch? I don't know enough about converters to verify this. Just what Ive been told.
As far as standard (non billet) converters go, some companies weld all the fins in place, some just tack 4 or 5 in the basket. The quality of the stator has a bearing on the price also. Aluminum stators are less expensive than steel.
It all is very confusing ,if you try to understand how a converter works. I just want to do this one time and only have so much to spend. Im too old and my back too bad to play trans drop anymore. Oh and Im too broke to pay someone else to do it, LOL.
All the major brands can build a good converter, but the GOOD converters aren't the ones advertised in Summit or Jegs. You will get what you pay for from any of them. Question is, how good does the converter need to be for the level your car is.

You can always pay more for the same function....
And cost of parts and quality can vary.
But you can also pay for hype and brand as well.
I've seen folks pay $2K+ for a 4l60e that breaks inside a month.
I paid $800 to have a guy rebuild and install my 4l60e and it too has been running for over a year and I beat the holy bonkers out of it....and it absorbs all of my tuning mistakes as well.
I think it depends how much power you have and what you want to do with it. Everybody has a tendency to overbuild.....I know I do.

My advice? Call the vendor you're interested in and let them recommend a converter to you. Want more feedback on PTC? There is a thread started a week ago on Yellowbullet where you can see more feedback from customers. PTC makes $450 converters on up, just like lots of vendors.

PTC is one of the best out there. I live close, and they do all our converters. Plus most every fast drag radial car out there is running PTC. The x275 car I helped with last weekend went 4.86 at huntsville in the 1/8 mile with PTC converter and trans.
You don't need a billet converter unless your making a TON of power. 1000-1100+.
Call PTC and ask for Tim. www.ptcrace.com
The one they did in my 4th gen has been 1.41 60' at 3700#. I drive it on the street with no problems. 3600 on motor, and 4000-4200 on nitrous depending on how big tune up is. Tim will get it right the first time, and they are real good on customer support. I pay full price for my stuff get, so Im not a salesman lol.. just giving my opinion.
