Holly, F body, or Moroso Oil Pan...69 Chevelle
Dont beat me up. lol I posted in the conversion sticky and no response and am in a little bit of a hurry. I didint have time to read 28 pages. lol
1969 Chevelle, NO pwr steering, NO AC, stock suspension. Stock frame mounts and Moroso tall engine mounts. These three pans all seem to be the best one for my conversion but wanted a final check. Will I have to notch cross member or re locate oil filter on any of these? I plan to be doing a pretty good wheelie and want to see if one is better to keep from oiling problems. Thanks

I believe you were twin turbo'd no? If that is still the case you may want to look into the Autokraft pant if they are still around. Had that on my '69 Cutlass LY6 car. I actually worked with stock mounts with regards to the lock-to-lock turning issue. That is where the real issues are with the A bodies from what I have found.
Autokraft had really nice baffling in it and was similar to what I would equate the Moroso to as it was sheetmetal. It was a road racing type of pan.
Good luck in your search.

Saw your post in the oil pan thread, but I don't have a definite answer for you so I didn't reply. Your car did interest me, so I read some of your other threads. Good stuff. Reading your transmission threads now. Anyway, I know the F-body pan should fit and allows you to keep a stock oil filter location and use a stock dipstick. If I remember correctly not all of the aftermarket pans use a dipstick and some don't even have a filter mount.
That being said, I'm sure the shallow 5 quart Camaro/firebird pan don't have the oil control characteristics of some of the others, but they do good enough to work fine in thousands of 98-02 drag cars so they have to be decent. Studderin (I think that's right?) has an aftermarket baffle that is built just for the stock LS1 pan in his car. There is some good info on it in the thread: https://ls1tech.com/forums/drag-raci...itch-diet.html Page #35-36 tells about it and has good pictures. Also found an old post of mine in that thread that may help too. He never tried anything like I suggested, but I still think it could be easily done.
Studderin said: " I noticed my oil pressure drops at launch. I knew this happends but I never checked on my car lol. So I'm gona do somthing about that this winter."
I replied: "I'm sure it would take some simple fabrication, but for all my old BBC's I use a Milodon oil baffle that sandwiches between the rear main cap and oil pump...costs about $6.00. It's a very basic, flat piece of steel approximately 6" x 2.5". It keeps oil from sloshing up the back of the pan/block on high G launches. Surely something similar could be built for LS1 style blocks for nothing but spare time. I realize the oil pump is crank driven and the main caps are set down into the crankcase so it couldn't attach the same way."
Hope this helps you some at least. Post up or PM me with as much info on your old BBC combo as you can. I've got some 5.3/6.0 stuff short blocks, #243/799/and L92 heads, and even some air to air intercoolers so I might be able to try out a turbo LS one day down the road, but I'm more likely to go to a 505"-555" big block or 482" W-motor instead. I'd especially prefer the W motor even if the best I can hope to run is high 10's with it.

Yes I have the H3 pan. It is the muscle car pan. Works great but sits too low for wheelies. The F body pan seems like the cheapest and best fit with stock oil filer location etc. Just wanted to verify. I liike the others but trying not to spend too much on a pan.
Thanks for the help

The F-body pan will work but the engine has to be pushed back pretty much up against the fire wall. I tried the Holley pan but b/c the bottom of the pan is curved it hit my steering centerlink. The AutoKraft fit pretty good put the tie rods hit lock to lock but that can be dealt with. All this was on my 69 Chevelle by the way. I know you have a cowl hood so you probably can go slightly higher with the engine, maybe the Holley pan will work.
I have a busted f-body pan Del you can try for fitment, you can have it for shipping.

Thanks for the responses.. My engine is NOT set back at all so the F body pan could be an issue. If I can scrounge the coin I think I will go with the AutoKraft. I dont like spending so much on a pan but thats minimal after, main studs, head studs, pistons, rods, custom cam...lol

Not planning to stand on the bumper but hope to have a 2-3ft wheelie a ways down the track. I dont plan to go over 20lbs of boost so whatever that gets me is what I am going to live with.
