Default Got a 98-02 WS6 hood??? Gauging interest on an improved version of the BG Ram Air.

Brian stopped making these around 2006 and has stated that he will not be reproducing them. Used systems and replacement parts for it rarely come up for sale and are outrageous. I'm talking with a very well known and respected vendor who is very experienced in plastics and molding and is fully capable of making a new version of this. It would not be marketed as the BGRA...it would be revised, use better materials throughout, and be marketed and sold under a new name.

I have a kit that I'm going to send to him when he gets caught up on some other projects for him to look over and decide what's involved, get an idea on costs and viability...but I will need a couple other things. The only parts of the kit I don't have is the rain blocker plate and the optional nostril trim pieces that replace the honeycomb hood inserts...so if someone would be generous enough to let him borrow these if needed it would be very appreciated and would be returned.
The biggest help would be an intact nostril section from a wrecked/busted WS6 hood. If anyone has one and they would be willing to donate it to the cause it would be a HUGE help.

No offense to Brian, it was a great system and brilliant design but the materials used leave a lot to be desired. The plastic used in the BGRA is VERY brittle and the fit and finish of the pieces could also be improved on. All of these will be addressed. The gasket material was very brittle and my idea is to make the seal as a molded piece of silicone instead of foam gasket material that quickly wears and disintegrates.

WS6's are timeless and still very popular. There was a a lot of them made and and many people that made clones as well. There's still a considerable market for this...hopefully we can make this happen!

Would be nice to see these again. I can attest for them being brittle. But the gasket wasn't too bad, I just replaced mine after 8 years of use. Had to make my own since you can't get them either. Do you know if your gaskets would fit the old system?

I remember when Brian stopped making them....I wondered why he just didn't raise his prices to make it worthwhile but i guess he just wasn't into it anymore.

For us that are out of the loop, what exactly is it (besides an obvious ram air mod) and what kind of gains does it provide?

If possible...yes. But that's not set in stone until he evaluates the current design. The goal will be a seal that doesn't need to be replaced. At least not for decades.

I am interested...I had thought about trying to fab up my own setup eventually. This would eliminate that (price depending...)

Thats a pretty substantial HP gain for something so simple.

I'm interested.

Isn't the other ram air method (scooping from underneath the car) better in terms of flow velocity though?

Very...the link above is the old ad for the BGRA. This would yield same results.

A tad bit but nothing noticeable. Plus there is trade offs. I like this method for a ws6 better.

So how does this go from the hood to the intake then? Just based off the picture in that thread I can't tell. Would you need a different style "lid" like the lt1 ram air style or what?

You can use any lid with it. A bracket of sorts screws into the back side of the hood, around the hole for the ram air opening. Then the gasket snaps into the bracket. When you close the hood it seals up tight.
