Any LS motor will work, for budget you can't go wrong with a 5.3. I will be swapping one in a 70's c10 for my next daily driver.

Yes 5.3 would be perfect power plant. it will make awesome power with bolts on's. look for a L33 5.3 because it has the 799 heads.(243 truck heads ) With a good flowing 799 heads will leave you with the 5.3 you can also run boost if you would like on stock bottom end and get you well past 500+ hp on stock bottom end. The L33 came on the 05-07 silverado/Sierra

Choosing the 5.3 you can also run boost if you would like on stock bottom end and get you well past 500+ hp on stock bottom end. The L33 came on the 05-07 silverado/Sierra. Lq4-lq9 6L would be a good motor if you want to stay n/a if you want to build a budget 402-408 stroker the 6L block would probably be the best. With the amount you would pay for a ls1-ls6 or ls2 you can build a badass stroker or make plenty of power with bolt ons either the 5.3 or 6.0 block.

a 5.3 ls motor would work great .do you plan to use a ls fuel injection wiring system ,or do a carb set up ?elderbrock sells a stand alone intake ignition system .the truck intake makes good power ,you mite find a 5.3 for $500.I believe painless wiring has a engine harness for ls transplants.
