Default Boosted 5.3 shopping list.

Hey guys I'm doing a 5.3 swapped boosted notch back, and was looking for some input. I'm mainly interested in a good streetable cam that will optimize a turbo. The car will have a turbo 400 trans.

Also, what type of rod bolts, lifters, push rods, valve springs and head gaskets would y'all advise for this?

Thanks guys.

Have you read through this section at all yet?

All the info you need can be had by reading builds, and vendor offerings.

A little bit of everything. But the main goal is a solid street car. Full weight, a/c, hell maybe even a little stereo. But it's also ment to drag and roll race. **** I could probably get away with doing the Houston half mile too. But the car will be on e85, and running on Holley efi.

As far as power level I love all these junk yard love stories where stock bottom end lq4's are holding 1000hp. I'd say 7-800 through a turbo 400 would be a liveable hp level on corn fuel. So lets go with that.

Wow, and to think if y'all spent just another 30 seconds typing you could of given me the info I needed.

I hope when I know it all about the ls platform, I don't become a huge jag off too.

Sorry.
My combo is a stock bottom end 5.3, stock rod bolts, stock lifters, ported heads, felpro MLS 5.3 gaskets, Patriot gold valve springs, hardened push rods, Speed Inc TU1 cam. Factory PCM, HT Tuners 2-bar SD.
Also run a TH400, 3800 stall, 3.00 rear gear. It will make the power you seek and is very streetable. Turbo is a PT76GTS.
If you want a cam optimal to your combo and turbo call someone. My friend just got one from Martin at Tick Performance. Nothing tested yet but he seems to be pretty knowledgable on the subject.

Stock rod bolts are fine, you will break something else before they stretch. Lifters you can also keep the stock ones. Pushrods I would get decent hardened ones that are sized to your cam. As far as valve springs you will want some with .650+ lift for those power levels. Many vendors sell them on here. Some say to use the LS9 head gaskets some don't, otherwise just get the proper sized GM MLS gaskets.....they all work fine.

I am doing this:

ARP rod bolts and head studs
LS9 Head Gasket
LS7 lifters
Brain Tooley .660 springs
Martin @ Tick Cam
Turbonetics Billet 75/75

This is on an 06 LM7 with ported 241 heads.

Sounds really nice. Is this the set up on the car you went 9.46 in, in your sig? How's that 3.00 and t400 on the highway? I'd imagine it cruises pretty nice.

What can you spin a 5.3 to with stock rod bolts? I thought I recalled someone being cautioned on here because of how high they were revving it with stock rod bolts. I can identify with that as I usually opt for the better rod bolts when I build my turbo Hayabusa engines. I do turn them to about 12500 tho.

Excuse my noob-ism, but I'm assuming an LM7 is another ls style block? Like the lq4 and 9s, l99's ect?

Ok,

04 and up have better rods with full floating pins. You will get varying opinions on the bolts, rods too for that matter.
Rod bolts btw can be re-used. As can the main bolts.
Iron 5.3 have dished pistons.
Alum 5.3 (L33) have flat top pistons. They also have better heads.
For turbo specific cams, consult Tick, or Forced Inductions. They work together. They will also pick and build a turbo for you.
For even more info, visit Yellow Bullet in the turbo section and the LSX Mod motor section.

I went straight to Tick for the turbo (came from Forced Induction) and the cam, designed by Martin.

Stock48 (forum member) is also a good resource. And has an 8 second 6.0l Nova.....stock bottom end...but fresh.

My vid in sig was first runs with a 6.0 shortblock last year. I think I hit the reluctor wheel on the crank and knocked it out of timing so the only thing different is the shortblock, everything on that went on the 5.3.
I also ran a glide, 1.80 first gear and a 3.50 rear gear. The car is on 100% stock shocks and springs and with the radials couldnt footbrake past 11psi.

Currently it has a Th400 w/ the 3.00 rear gear. To match my setup with the glide i'd need a 2.86 rear gear so I just went with 3.00. With this turbo on this engine it seems to turn on harder in the upper RPMs... I think back pressure might have been an issue on the 6.0 with the PT76GTS...
With the 3.00 gear its like the glide but with overdrive. Yes, cruises awesome on the highway.

RPM wise with stock rod bolts my first combo i ever built lasted 3 years pounding it , 7300rpms, 15psi + a 50 shot of spray. It was a 100k junk yard engine and finally spun a rod bearing. It took a beating.

Here's my inspiration / recipe for my 72 build:

http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/h...g_bang_theory/ and

http://www.truckinweb.com/tech/engin...g/viewall.html

Shows what a stock bottom motor can do. Little twist at the end of the first article on what motor they had.

Good luck!
