Default factory tach

My factory tach reads about 300 or rpms high, is there a way to correct this?

Higher you rev, the bigger the RPM error. About 200 at idle, Don't know why they bothered to include them. Actual 6500 buries the needle on the 7000 RPM peg. I get calls all the time "Your shifting my car too high!" Or, "you set my rev limiters too high!" Like pulling teeth to get some people to check them with a scanner.

Stock tach is good for tooling around, shift light works Perfect for high rpm use.

And how does a shift light correct it?

You shift by the light, not the tach.

I understand that . Being a auto my concern was just normal driving. Seeing the tach at 2800rpms doing 65 gets old.

Take the clear plastic lens off of the cluster and very gently lift the tach needle up to remove it. Simply replace but factor in the right amount of correction. Just lightly press it on and it will he accurate however it might take a couple of trys

. Mine is accurate at all rpms.

At all RPMs? Even during pulls or revs? Mine lags on the way up the gauge during pulls or clutch/neutral revs but is accurate at idle.

Regardless of whether or not it's an auto really doesn't matter. If you're worried about shifting the trans does not rely on the signal from the tach. I guess if it bugs you that much then you can relocate it? Personally I wouldn't go through the trouble.

What have you got for gears in that car?? My car sees about 1900 RPM at 65.

(Maybe my tach reads 300 RPM low....)

4.11's but reads as if it has 4.56's. mph is spot on. Rpm is off. I verified everything via scan.. Car is tuned correct for tire height and gears. It's only a eye sore to me.. Was just wondering if there was a fix. After this thread in really not worried about it. Ed had me at ease with his first post

Interesting. It really sucks that there is no way to improve the factory tach. The only option is to get an aftermarket one that clutters up the dash.
