Default What makes these sound so bad ***?

I realize the cam has alot to do with it but I'm about to redo the exhuast on my lq4 swapped 77' 280z and I'm after the crackle that I hear alot of vettes spitting out. What is it about the vettes that make them sound so badass? I'm building a dual 3" system with an x pipe and magnaflow race series mufflers. I currently have a .590 .590 114lsa cam so nothing crazy.

Big cubes, big overlap, and Corsa. Corsa amplifies the crackle you hear.

Concrete floor garage and a cam, IMO.

LQ9 EPS cam specs 600-ish lift and 233-ish duration that went into my buddies 78 Caprice (Christine).

a big cam and tons of compression is the main reason, the rest of it is a x pipe and basically equal length pipe with minimal bends. bends kill sound quite a bit. If you build a nice system with an x pipe you can get good sound in the Z

here is what my setup looks/sounds like so far, it should be perfect when I get the rest put on there this is all that is on it in the video

well the bumps on the piece above are these 9" dynomax bullets
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/wlk-24250/overview/

will be doing a set of full size 16" bullets in the back to quiet it down some
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/wlk-24250/overview/

Have used a setup like this before and it works perfect, the small bullets that far forward do more than you would think

the x pipe is an ebay piece and its great quality for cheap, overall this is a cheap setup all the tubing and vbands are from acestainless.com whom I also recommend. the entire exhaust system is stainless from heads to tips. I think I have about $800 in it including headers, mufflers, all tubing, x pipe, etc.

you running long tubes? having long tubes in an LS s30 is a nightmare and very expensive.. like $870 expensive. I cant justify $900 over shorties but i bet it makes a big difference in sound.

I like the idea of using the bullet mufflers, They are louder and sound nice. I bought a set of magnaflow race series mufflers and they are huge and sound like a truck..

biggest thing with bullets people never get is you need as much pipe after them as you can get. If you run them on the end of a pipe they don't do very much. That is why even the small ones way up front like that work well.
When I add the longer ones in the back I will have at least 6" after them if I can fit it

yup.. lookin good man. Finding an s30 that isnt covered in cancer is a challenge. I really wish i could get my hands on a set of long tubes. After seeing your pics i might try to sell my shorties and bite the bullet. 10-15hp difference is what i hear and i bet they make a big difference in sound.

only thing with the s30 platform is the lack of room. If i mimicked your setup i would have to run the 16" bullets and the very most rear part of the exhaust system.

That does sound good. I wish I could find someone with one of those test stands around here, that would come in handy.
